INTRODUCTION
Our project name is SCADA for electrical power utilities . SCADA stands for
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. The purpose of this project is to acquire
the remote electrical parameters like voltage, current and send these values over
RF network using module along with the temperature at power station. This project
is also designed to protect the electrical circuitry.
This system is used to identify the faults in transformer and transmission line.
Faults in transformer are Like Transformer fire blast, Tran. Over temp., C.B.
tripped, Line open, Street light ON, Repair work, power ON, Pole cut, etc
In this system all this fault in Tran. are identified & these faults are
immediately given to power station through RF signals in the form of MESSAGE.
Then in power station alarm will ON & in particularly which section fault is
occurred is identified & next procedure of repair is done.
By this system lots of time can be saved. Also man power required for
supervision is minimized.
HARDWARE DESCRIPTION

Micro controller (16F73)

Crystal oscillator
Regulated power supply (RPS)
buzzer
Square wave generator
Temperature sensor
Frequency measuring unit
RF transceiver
LCD display
Microcontroller:
There are 28 pins on PIC16F73. Most of them can be used as
an IO pin. The PIC16F73 CMOS FLASH-based 8-bit
microcontroller. It features 200 ns instruction execution, self
programming, an ICD, 2 Comparators, 8 channels of 8-bit
Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter, 2 capture/compare/PWM
functions, a synchronous serial port that can be configured as
either 3-wire SPI or 2-wire I2C bus, a USART, and a Parallel Slave
Port. Temperature sensor:
The Temperature Sensor LM35 sensor series are precision
integrated-circuit temperature sensors, whose output
voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius (Centigrade)
temperature.

Regulated power supply:

RF Transceiver:
A transceiver is a device that has both a transmitter and a
receiver which is combined and share common circuitry or a
single housing. If no circuitry is common between transmit and
receive functions, the device is a transmitter-receiver. The term
originated in the early 1920s. Technically, transceivers must
combine a significant amount of the transmitter and receiver
handling circuitry. Similar devices include transponders,
transverters, and repeaters

Square wave generator:

A square wave generator which converts the analog signals in
to digital square wave signals this are applied to
microcontroller
Crystal oscillator:
The crystal oscillator speed that can be connected to the PIC
microcontroller range from DC to 20Mhz. Using the CCS C
compiler normally 20Mhz oscillator will be used and the price is
very cheap.

SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION

This project is implemented using following softwares:

Express PCB for designing circuit
PIC C compiler - for compilation part
Proteus 7 (Embedded C) for simulation part

4.2 PIC Compiler:

PIC compiler is software used where the machine language
code is written and compiled. After compilation, the machine
source code is converted into hex code which is to be dumped
into the microcontroller for further processing.

4.3 Proteus:
Proteus is software which accepts only hex files. Once the
machine code is converted into hex code, that hex code has
to be dumped into the microcontroller and this is done by the
Proteus.
ADVANTAGES
Device can be operated wirelessly using RF communication.
Continuous operation.
Provide rapid response to emergencies.
Low power consumption.
Reliable & efficient.
Few operators can control large no. of individual assets.
Means few no. of labors required.
low cost design.
Time will be saved.
APPLICATIONS
This system can be implemented in industries.
This system can be used to monitoring and controlling the
transformers.
This system can be used in power distribution system.
Fire detection automation.
Water heater automation.
Automatic electric automation.
FUTURE SCOPE
In future we can use this project in several applications by
adding additional components to this project.
This project can be extended by using GPRS technology,
which helps in sending the monitored and controlled data to
any place in the world. The temperature controlling systems
like coolant can also use in places where temperature level
should be maintained.
By connecting wireless camera in industries, factories etc
we can see the entire equipments from our personal
computer only by using GPRS and GPS technology.
CONCLUSION
From the knowledge of SCADA one can know the
energy distribution pattern & identifying the major energy
wasting areas. Integrating features of all the hardware
components used have been developed in it , thus
contributing to the best working of unit.

Secondly, using highly advanced ICs with the help of

growing technology, the project has been successfully
implemented.
