British science-fiction television series
It was created in 1963

What is It originally was intended to appeal to a

family audience

Doctor who? The original purpose of the TV series was to

use its plot as an educational tool to explore
important moments in history and scientific
ideas as well
It is divided into two phases
The classic series: from 1963 to 1989
The modern series: from 2005 to present
Additional interesting fact: Doctor Who is the
longest running science-fiction show in
history with 53 years in TV (54 in November
2017)
The plot

The TV series follow the adventures of a Time-Lord called The

Doctor
He explores the universe time- traveling in time and space with
his TARDIS
The Doctor rarely travels alone. He often travels with one or more
companions
As he travels across time and universe, he often finds himself
getting in situations where he must stop the evil forces from
harming others and/or changing history
He does this with the help of his friends/companions, his intellect,
and his sonic screwdriver
The Doctor

He is a Time-Lord, an extraterrestrial being from the planet

Gallifray
He is one of the few remaining Time Lords alive
His real name is not The Doctor just an alias. His real name is still
a mystery; he does not tell it
He has two hearts
He says he is about 1200 years old but the truth is that he does
not because of all the time traveling and the regenerations. He
could be older than that or younger.
He has a particular love for planet Earth and often saves it from
evil forces or other humans that want to destroy it, harm the
people, or conquer it
He, however, has rule: not interfere with fixed points in
history (events that MUST occur in the way they did)
But he saves other planets and other people/extraterrestrial
beings as well
The Doctor, as a Time-Lord, has the ability to regenerate if he
comes to the end of his life either by age or because he got badly
injured
The Many Faces of
The Doctor:
Regeneration
There are currently 13 incarnations of The Doctor
But not, there are not 13 different Doctors. There
is only one Doctor!
The Doctor can regenerate if his life is coming to
an end
When he regenerates, every single cell of his body
changes causing:
A new physical form
Shift in personality due to chemical changes in
the brain
It is a long process (can take hours to fully
complete)
It can be traumatic, causing mental & physical
instability until the process is completed
He retains all his memories
Needs a period of readjustment to the new body
The regeneration cycle is limitied
A Time-Lord can chose to die and not regenerate
Gallifrey & Time-
Lords
Its the planet from where the Time-Lords
came from
Located about 29,000 light years from Earth
Before the Great Time War, it was a divided
world
Time-Lords: they lived in vast citadels
enclosed in mighty glass domes
Outsiders: outcast of the Gallifreyan
society. They lived trivial lives in the
wilderness beyond the cities
The planet was ravaged by the Daleks at the
end of the Time War. Many Gallifreyans die
in the war as well.
Not all could regenerate: if the
regeneration process is interrupted or
the circumstances in which they get hurt
are to fast not allowing the regeneration
process to happen they can die
The TARDIS and the
Sonic Screwdriver
TARDIS is an acronym of Time And Relative Dimension
In Space
It is a time machine and spacecraft
It is BIGGER ON THE INSIDE!
Its product of advanced Time Lord tech
The TARDIS has a chameleon circuit which is
supposed to change the external appearance of the
TARDIS to blend with its environment wherever it land
The Doctors TARDIS got stuck in the form a 1960s-
style blue British police box
TARDISes (TARDIS plural form) provides their users with
additional tools and abilities such as universal
translation!
The sonic screwdriver is the standard and most useful
tool that the TARDIS toolkit contains
The sonic screwdriver is the favorite and most useful
The Companions

They are people who travel and live adventures with The
Doctor
They start their adventures with The Doctor in different
ways
Involuntary passengers at first
Curiosity
They accept to keep traveling with him after they lived
a first adventure together
Most of the Doctors companions so far have been women
but he has traveled with males, extraterrestrial beings, and
even a robot.
He regularly gains and loses companions by different
reasons:
They find new causes
Fall in love
Some have died
Some decide return home
The Villains
The Doctor often encounters different types of
villains in his adventures through time and space
However, the most popular are:
The Daleks: EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
is the battle cry of the Daleks. They are
ruthless conquerors who believe in the
superiority of their own race.
The Master: a renegade Time Lord who may
be the Doctors intellectual equal. While the
Doctor only wants to explore the universe, the
Master wants to own it
Weeping Angels: Dont blink. Blink and youre
dead. The Weeping Angels are statues that
can only move when they are not being
looked at. A millisecond of blindness and the
killer statues could creep nearer and nearer.
Cybermen: There are two versions of them:
The original ones that came from another
planet
The new ones that were created in a
parallel universe by bonding human
brains within a strong steel shell
The Silence: Terrifying creatures that have the
ability to erase themselves from the memory
of everyone whos seen them. They have
