HYDRO TURBINE
Brilliance in Mind
INTRODUCTION
Self Sufficient Lodge is replacing the Power
generation System for a Hydro Turbine and
considered Brilliance in Mind to do a
Design proposal.
This Design is based on Client Brief V.1.1
We are covering Penstock Pressure Pipes
and Flow
PROPOSED HYDRO-TURBINE
SYSTEM
Legend Proposed Micro Hydro Installation Not drawn to scale.
K = 0.5 m (depth dam is keyed into slope)

H = head of water semi-conical storage volume

h = max depth of water
R

L = length of pipe (includes through dam)

P = electrical power output h

X
R = radius of dam wall

S = 100m (length of slope from water source)

K = 0.5 m concrete dam
T = thickness of dam wall
(semi-cylindrical)
X = length of storage (up slope)

(theta) = 30 degrees (angle of slope) h

Analysis is expected to include:

S = 100 m

COST OF THE PROJECT - PIPES
CONCLUSION
The Hydro system will have the most efficient and most
cost effective project with a 90 mm pipes,
The pressure loss due to size and distance from the
reservoir will be only 1.08%,
The pressure at the exit of the nozzle will be 485.7 KPa
and the velocity of the water will be 10.18 m/s,
The installation will cost AUD$ 1200.00.
