THE MOON

DONE BY: YASAR AHSAN

DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE MOON
HOW WAS THE MOON FORMED?
The moon was formed from debris left from a collision between the newborn Earth
and a Mars-sized rock, this collision turned the newly formed Earth into a molten ball
of rocks again and ejected materials into the orbit. Most of the materials crashed
back into the Earth, but some collected together from mutual gravity to form the
moon due to being stuck in our orbit.

HOW LONG DOES THE MOON TAKE TO COMPLETE A FULL ROTATION?

27 days to finish a rotation.

HOW OLD IS THE MOON?

4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO.

WHAT IS UMBRA AND PENUMBRA?
UMBRA: The umbra is the innermost and darkest part of a shadow, where the
light source is completely blocked by the occluding body. An observer in the umbra
experiences a total eclipse. The umbra of a round body occluding a round light
source forms a right circular cone; to a viewer at the cone's apex, the two bodies
are equal in apparent size.

PENUMBRA: The penumbra is the region in which only a portion of the light
source is obscured by the occluding body. An observer in the penumbra
experiences a partial eclipse. An alternative definition is that the penumbra is the
region where some or all of the light source is obscured.
WHAT IS TIDES?
TIDES: Tide is the cyclic rise and fall of ocean water on Earth caused by the
gravitational attraction of the moon and to al esser degree of the sun.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM HIGH TIDES TO LOW TIDES?

6 HOURS 25 MINUTES.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM HIGH TIDES TO HIGH TIDES?

12 HOURS 50 MINUTES.
HOW MANY TYPES OF TIDES ARE THERE?
NEAP TIDES: A tidal cycle in which there is very little difference
between the water level at high and low tides; caused by the canceling
effect of sun and moon gravity. Acting at a right angle.

SPRING TIDES: A tidal cycle in which there are

very high and low tide; caused by the addictive

effect of the Sun and Moons gravity acting

together in same line.

WHAT IS ECLIPSE?
Eclipse:the total or partial obscuring of reflected light from a celestial
body as a result of its passage through the shadow of another.

Lunar Eclipse: the obscuration of the light of the moon by the

intervention of the earth between it and the sun.
WHAT IS ECLIPSE?
Solar Eclipse: the obscuration of the light of the sun by the
intervention of the moon between it and a point on the earth
THE PHASES OF THE
WHAT CAUSES THE MOON TO GO THROUGH PHASES?
MOON
The revolution of the Moon around the Earth causes the Moon to appear to have
phases due to the moon always faces the Earth. The moon does not give off its
own light. It is the sun reflecting off the surface of the moon that creates light. As
the moon orbits Earth, its position in the sky changes which produces the different
phases of the moon we see each month.
HOW MANY PHASES ARE THERE OF THE MOON?

HOW LONG DOES THE MOON TAKE TO COMPLETE A FULL ROTATION?

The moon takes approximately 29 days to complete one rotation.
