Lower Canada in regards to government complaints, land,
taxes, transportation, and culture
- I will know what to expect when they go to vote
- I will be able to identify the controversy around wearing a
face veil to a polling station
- I will be able to identify who was eligible to vote in Canada
during the 1800s
- I will be able to identify the problems with elections in the
1800s. Thus students will understand that elections were
corrupt as they were public and people were bribed and
threatened

Group Discussion Question:
From your understanding of
Representative & Responsible
government so far, would you
say the government setup in
both Upper & Lower Canada
are Representative and
Responsible? Why or why not?
Explain.
Representative Council
members are not
elected by majority of
citizens, they are
appointed by the
Governor
Responsible Council
members could do as
they pleased, ignore
what the majority
wanted and could not be
removed from councils
except by action of the
governor

Both colonies are not..
