Focusing on Santa Susana
High
A school for accelerated academics, technical arts, and performing arts. At Santa
Susana the best way to make friends is to be yourself. Be open and social with your
peers. Being open minded to making friends makes other people feel comfortable
with talking to you. Being kind is always important if you want to avoid any
confrontation make sure to follow the rule, if you have nothing nice to say the dont
say it. This is most beneficial way to begin high school, if you follow these tips you
will have a wonderful high school experience.
The Definition of Bullying:
- The use of superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone),
typically to force him or her to do what one wants.

- Bullying is also recognized as any unwanted comments, actions, or

harassment from one person towards another. This is especially
followed in the school setting.
Santa Susana High School and
Bullying:
- At Santa Susana High School there is a zero tolerance to bullying.

- All employees are trained to immediately respond to and act

appropriately to extinguish any bullying instances, and take
disciplinary action towards the responsible party.

- No student or group of students shall be discriminated against for

any reason; it is also not tolerated to perform any hate crime
towards others.

- Students who commit any form of bullying are subject to corrective

actions such as counseling, behavioral interventional education, and
possibly suspension or even expulsion.
Examples Illustrating Bullying
- Cyberbullying has been a form
of bullying many at Santa Su
have become guilty of
committing.

- However, many other schools

face other bullying problems
that occur on campus face to
face between students; this
can oftentimes lead to physical
confrontation.
Responding to Bullying
- The most important thing to do when you face a problem with
bullying is to not engage in the situation to avoid escalating it to
confrontation.

- The next step in responding to bullying is to notify an adult.

Whether you are comfortable speaking with a teacher,
administrator, counselor, or even your parents; these adults can all
respond accordingly to diffuse a situation and determine the correct
action to take.

- It is also detrimental to make all of the above adult figures aware of

the situation that way it can be monitored and controlled at all
times.
What the Students Think?
- At Santa Susana we were able to interview Freshmen and
Sophomores to find out what they think about bullying on campus.

- We found out that these students started school under the

impression that they would be excluded and put at the bottom of a
stereotypical high school hierarchy.

- After coming to Santa Susana they have realized that we do not

have a stereotypical hierarchy at our high school; and everyone has
wide open excepting arms.
The End of Bullying
- Bullying will be a problem almost anywhere you go. It is a problem
that occurs usually due to the bully being a victim of bullying
themselves.

- It is very important to remember that if you are being bullied you

should speak up.

- Speaking up is the only way school administrators are allowed to

intervene and handle a situation.

- By speaking up you can resolve any type of bullying issue as well as

help a bully get the help they need to resolve inner conflicts that
may have been caused by them being bullied in the past.
