selected, developed and rewarded for
accomplishing goals.
Human Resource Planning the process of
providing an adequate mix of employees for
achieving organization goals.
Human skill the ability to work with other
people effectively.
Professional Development a continuous
and individual process of trying to understand
ourselves and our practice so as to become
the best in our chosen profession.
It involves rethinking and questioning old
assumptions, a change in attitudes, beliefs
and practice.
For an organization to survive and prosper, it
must be able not only to identify and select
qualified employees, but also to develop and
retain them.
There are specific human resource
development activities. These are orientation,
training, performance appraisal,
compensation, discipline and labor relations.
Orientation the process that introduces new
employees to their new work environment e.g
TIP ( Teacher Induction Program).
A premium orientation process is critically
important to establish healthy work attitude
among new employees because it not only
gives them their first impression of how an
organization operates, but it sets the tone for
their entire stay.
Training the process of developing
knowledge, skills and abilities so as to improve
present and future performance.
Performance Appraisal the process of
determining the extent to which an employee
is performing a job effectively.
Legal aspects of performance appraisal:
demotion, failure to promote, layoff and
discharge .
PA Techniques:
1. Graphic rating scale a scale that requires a manager
to appraise a subordinates performance on a variety of
specific factors.
2. Essay Appraisal written commentary of a
subordinates performance
3. Comparative method comparison of performance
with other employees using abstract standards.
4. Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales a performance
appraisal technique in which specific behaviors are
related to varying levels of perfomance.
Compensation to obtain and retain a high
performing workforce, an organization must
develop a well-conceived compensation package
program e.g.
Benefits- noncash forms of compensation that
employees customarily receive in addition to a
salary.
Bonus compensation received in addition to
ones regular salary.
Perquisites an extra, noncash form of
compensation e.g. RATA /car services
Discipline is action taken against an
employee for violating work force. One of the
biggest challenge of a manager is to
encourage self-discipline among employees.
Labor relations
Once employees organized into a union,
management freedom to act independently is
constrained.
