Federalism

What is Federalism?
System of balancing power between the Federal Government and
State Governments.

Federal Government is superior to the State Governments.

Delegated Powers - The delegated or assigned powers of the


Federal Government. The founding fathers
feared a national government that would overstep its bounds, so
they only allowed the national government very specific powers.
These are also referred to as enumerated powers.

Reserved Powers The powers reserved for the


State Governments

Concurrent Powers The powers of the federal and functioning at


the same time in harmony.

Implied Powers - These are powers that are NOT specifally mentioned
in the Constitution, but are understood to be necessary or allowed.
