Web 2.0

Dubbed as the second stage of development, Web 2.0 brings

classrooms to life with student interactive assignments and options.
With Web 2.0 being the current state of the Internet, students are
able to find information and connect with one another more easily
than ever before.
Second Life

Second Life brings a virtual world to real-life scenarios. In or out of

the the classroom, students can collaborate with each other.
The only limitations to using media like Second Life is the connection
speed of your Internet.
Costs are $9.95 per month for a premium membership that allows
users to do much more. Basic memberships are free.
Second Life works well with courses where viewing items in three-
dimensions is necessary. (i.e. engineering, chemistry)
How Second Life works, 2007).
Google Cardboard

With Google Cardboard incorporated into the classroom, students

are able to go on impossible field trips underwater and in space.
Virtual Reality (VR) makes learning about science, history, and
geography an adventure.
Google Cardboard is an inexpensive alternative to high-priced VR
headsets.
Google is a leader in engaging educational content that makes
students want to learn (The advantages of using Cardboard or VR
in schools, 2017).
Inquiry-Based Learning
Inquiry-based learning is about making your lessons more engaging
by triggering curiosity in your students.
In the classroom, the responsibility is put on the students.

Inquiry-Based Learning

To assist students during Inquiry-Based Learning, follow these

examples.
1. Have students research questions that appeal to them.
2. Research the topic during class time.
3. Have the students present what they learned to the class.
4. Have students reflect on what worked and what didnt during
their research time (Wolpert-Gawron, 2016).

Reflection
After sharing this Web-Based Environments digital presentation with my
mentor teacher, she was very intrigued at the idea of some of the
media that was listed in it. We began discussing on how during the early
years of Internet, students were very limited as to which types of lessons
could be performed online. She was telling me that early on most
lessons were drill-and-practice formats to get students to remember
their content. Nowadays, students are able to interact, collaborate,
and create on a level that was never possible before. She was
impressed with the amount of multimedia that was available in this
presentation and even stated that she had never heard of the web-
based environments before such as Second Life and Google
Cardboard. In my future practice, I will continuously update these
media tools to assist me with staying current with the newest online
programs for my students. As a technology leader in my school, I should
be ready with online resources to assist teachers and students with
meeting their goals with technology. As the Internet continues to
become more user-oriented it is important to inform students and
teachers with the most up to date information while working online.
