8 : ANIMATION

MMP3013
Topic Outline
What is 3D Graphics.
What is animation and how to

use it.
What is Virtual Reality.

How to use animation in

multimedia product.
3D Graphics
Create from modeling process.
Modeling is a process used to

create 3D object in a computer

3D modeling and animation
application.
ANIMATION
Is the use of comp generated
images to convey motion.
The perception of motion in an

animation is an illusion.
Animation is a series of images

viewed sequentially. Each image

depicts a position and when
viewed in succession illustrates
motion.
ANIMATION
Animation is created by:
Creating a series of still images
that can be shown rapidly
creating a sense of motion.
Manipulating and moving an
object along a vector or path.
Storing animation information
in a data file for later playback.
ANIMATION
Frame Animation
Displays a series of images
(frames) in rapid succession
Threshold for the human eye to
recognize flicker is 24 frames per
second
Vector Animation
Animation is stored as a series of
mathematical equations
Macromedia has published the
ANIMATION
Computational Animation
Specifies coordinates for objects
Objects are moved by varying
their x and y coordinates
Morphing
Transitions one shape into
another
Uses a series of frames to create
a smooth movement
2D ANIMATION
2 types : Cel and Path
Animation.
Cel: based on the changes that

occur from 1 frame to another

frame to give the illusion of
movement.
Cel from word celluloid ( transparent
sheet material), used to draw image
and place on stationary background.
2D ANIMATION
Path : moves an object along a
predetermined path on the screen.
Path can be in straight line or it could
include any number of curves. Object
are not change, can be resized or
reshape.
Use tweening technique, which object is
set beginning position on 1 frame and
end at another frame, the techniques
will fill in the intervening frames.
2D ANIMATION
Rendering is the final step in
creating 3-D animation and
involves defining the object
attributes such as color, surface
textures and degree of
transparency.
It can take considerable time,

depending on the complexity of

the animation.
RENDERING
It paint the scene from top to
bottom, one line at the time to
create the type of image you
expect from your design.
Rendering option:
- Motion blur: used to digitally
create the visual effect of blurring
caused by objects moving past the
camera.
RENDERING
Rendering option:
Depth-of-field rendering:
Special effect plug-ins:
VIRTUAL REALITY
Attempts to create an environment
that surrounds the user so that she
becomes part of the experience.
The term use to describe various

types of applications.
Flight simulations, landscape,

computer games and etc.

MORPHING EXAMPLE
EXAMPLES
ANIMASI 2D
EFFECTIVE 3D GRAPHIC
Know what format your development
tools can use.
Decide whether to model your own

objects or use some one else.

Make sure that your computer has

ample resources to do the job.

Allow enough time to get the job done.

Dont over complicate the scene.

Keep it small and simple.

TAKE A BREAK!!!!
The 12 Principles Of Character Animation,
As Developed At The Disney Studio

1. Squash and Stretch. (Shape

distortion to accentuate movement)
2. Anticipation. (A reverse movement
to accent a forward movement)
3. Staging. (The camera viewpoint to
best show the action)
4. Straight-ahead vs. Pose-to-pose
action. (Two basic procedures)
The 12 Principles Of Character
Animation, As Developed At The
Disney Studio
5. Follow-through and
Overlapping action. (Nothing
stops abruptly!)
6. Slow-in and Slow-out.
(Smoothing starts and stops by
spacing)
7. Arcs. (Planning the path of actions)
8. Secondary Actions. (A head
might wag while the legs walk!)
9. Timing. (Time relations within
10. Exaggeration. (Caricature of actions
and timing)
11. Solid drawing. (Learn good drawing to
be a good animator!)
12. Appeal. (If our characters are not
appealing, then all is lost!)
INTERNET CONSIDERATION

Consider the file size, downloading

time of each frame.
Usually animation is streamed/buffer

(begin playing the initially

downloaded frame while the rest are
being downloaded).
Streaming refer to special form of

media delivery, typically used on the

web, that allow the first part of the
file is still downloading in the
background.
