Game Sense Is About!
So, what is new?
This presentation is to explain to you what changes there are
which your child will be participating in Physical Education.
There is a new pedagogy that has influenced my application in
how I will teach your child Physical Education.
This new application is called Game sense where students will
be given a game, for example netball, which they will have to
modify. This means that students are not only participating in
one sport through out the term but will participate in numerous
sports whilst being social with their peers as well as providing
the class with demonstrations their modifications to the class
(Light, 2012).
Why modify fine motor
skills with Game Sense?

Research has shown that fine motor skills which are

outlined in the PE curriculum are implemented in the
basis for assessment (Miller, 2006). Outlined in the
PDH/PE K-6 Syllabus (1999) it states that students need
to build on their fine motor skills in environments that
are exactly the same. This means that many teachers
focus on these skills and work their way up through the
years to reach students being able to complete a sport
together. HOWEVER, it is through Game Sense that
students will participate in a fast-paced sport
connecting not only their motor skills but their mind to
what is happening as well!
Why I am going to implement
Game Sense
From 5 to 10 minutes a lesson that will be
open for discussion and presentation of
modifications students will continually be
moving throughout the class.

Students will participate in all games, Game

Sense as well focus on students working in
teams including discussions.

Students will have to socialise with other

students, showing their understanding the
games and how to modify them in order to
create a way to solve a problem posed to
them.

The syllabus outlines many different sports

that unfortunately may not be shown to
students. Through Game Sense students
participate in numerous sports each week.
How will this effect your child in
comparison to the PDH/PE Curriculum?
In the curriculum it refers to fine motor skills to be used by students. This will be used
alongside with Game Sense in order to create an improved way to teach your children
Physical Education.
Game Sense connects to many Syllabus outcomes shown below and will improve your child's
understanding of Physical Education that is inclusive of all students:
Refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations (MOS3.4).
Suggests, considers and selects appropriate alternatives when resolving problems (PSS3.5).
Shows how to maintain and improve the quality of an active lifestyle (ALS 3.6).
Applies movement skills in games and sports that require communication, cooperation, decision
making and observation of the rules (GSS 3.8).
Demonstrates co-ordinated actions of the body when performing gymnastics sequences (GYS
3.10).
Describes roles and responsibilities in developing and maintaining positive relationships
(IRS3.11).
PDH/PE K-6 Curriculum (1999)
Conclusion

It is through the implementation of Game sense in

your childs education that I plan to meet the
fundamental motor skills in collaboration with Game
sense in order to teach the syllabus skills.
I will also be providing your children with the
learning experiences in Physical Education they will
need to be ready to continue on to high school.
