Lymphatic vessels
Lymphatics vessels
NOT A CIRCULATING FLUID
Interstitial fluid drains into lymphatic capillaries, forming
lymph.
Begin as closed ended lymph capillaries in tissue spaces
between cells
Lymph capillaries merge to form lymphatic vessels
Capillaries unite to form larger vessels
Resemble veins in structure
Connect to lymph nodes at various intervals
Lymph Capillaries
Lymphatic Vessels
Lymphatic vessels
Found throughout body except:
Avascular tissues
Central nervous system
Spleenic pulp
Bone marrow
Lymphatics ultimately deliver lymph into 2 main channels
Right lymphatic duct
Drains right side of head & neck, right arm, right thorax
Empties into the right subclavian vein
Thoracic duct
Drains the rest of the body
Empties into the left subclavian vein

The Lymph Nodes

Lymph Nodes
Enclosed by a fibrous
capsule
Follicles B cell zones
Parafollicular T cell zone
(CD4-70%), dendritic cells,
mononuclear phagocytes
Lymph enters nodes through
afferent lymphatics, flows
through sinuses, exits
through efferent lymphatic
