Further Impacts - 1
Due to Schools:
Schools aim for all pass and village first.
Teachers aim for the least i.e., one student scoring centum in
his subject.
What is the use of Village first, if they dont end up in
government and good institutions.
Language or communication skills are not given proper
concern.
Lack of career guidance books or programs.

Further Impacts - 2
Due to Teachers:
Very few teachers are not punctual to classes.
Few teachers aim for the least i.e., one student scoring
centum in his subject.
Mismatch between tuition hours and study hours.
Teacher teaching at school at the rate of 6 hours per week
plus 6 hours at tuition.
Students have very less study time

Career Guidance

Further Impacts - 3
Due to Parents:
Thinking that education is attainable only with money.
Thinking that whatever the children study, they will need
recommendation to get a job.
Not aware of various educational openings present and their
respective standards.
Forcing children to take a specific course due to various
personal reasons. Dont force, just guide.
Indicating to children about various jobs without proper
knowledge.
Giving students maximum household works while they are
at 10th or 12th standard. This will be an excuse later by
students.

18
Career Guidance

Further Impacts - 4
Due to social organizations:
Distributing notices indicating 500 engineers, 20 doctors or
what-so-ever, without indicating where these people
graduated, how did they enter and how much did they score
Providing awards for total marks only and not considering
cut-off marks.
Helping students with some career guidance programs
Provide indicators about various exam dates.
Providing training without benchmark standards.

Points to Ponder
Dont go for higher education because you dont get a job after your bachelor degree
Do higher education only if you are passionate about it
Accept challenges to accomplish any achievement
Dont wait for a miracle (accomplishing everything in short time) in the last minute
or week or month
If short duration is needed, why H.Sc is of two years (+1 and +2)
Practice makes a person perfect
Over confidence is worst than cancer
There is no substitute for hard work
Being attentive to the task is very important
While learning, you should be able to infer the text from the diagram or vice versa
Analytical and logical reasoning is vital for human development. Derivation in different
courses if understood properly, will help develop these vital skills
Sometimes, you might need memorize formula and derivations
Idle mind is devils mind.
There is nothing called as 2nd level job

28
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder
While studying for H.Sc or SSLC or whatever
Spend your time with effectively: Allocate 60% of your time for core subjects (Phy,
Che, Bio, Maths, Commerce, ) and 40% for language subjects
Do SWOT analysis of your own self
Find out your strength and weakness; utilise the strength to overcome the weakness
Note that 11th standard education is important for +2 and 9th standard is important for
10th standard. Foundation is vital for any construction
Note that 10th standard is your first experience in Public exam. Try to learn the
experience.
Early Morning study
Its good to wake at around 4am and have a cup of milk (Pray Tahajjud)
Note that studying 3 hours in the morning is equivalent to studying 9 hours in the
night or later in the evening/day.
Keep a gap of 5 to 10 minutes between every 1 hour or 45 minutes of continuous
study

29
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder
Physical exercises brings your brain to be active; Our five times prayer should
accomplish all these very easily, insha Allah
You need 30 minutes of physical activity daily.
Spend some 15 minutes in talking to your parents or friends, not about the subject
but something generic and no gossiping please
Play some light games like Skipping or Tennikoit or something else
Please note that the game should have less chance of injury and should be non-
stressful.
Playing a local or district or state level competition will give immense pressure
(you will be thinking about it for long period and not just during the game
time) and this should be considered as part of physical activity.
7 hours of proper sleep is vital at this stage

30
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder on Handling Exams

Parents should not create unnecessary pressure on students
Parents should think positive and not negative
Parents should advise and not frighten students
Schools should provide a replica (100% exact) of Public exam
The question papers should have key for evaluation
Replicate the instructions as in the Public exam
Sometimes follow the BluePrint for question pattern and sometimes keep it
different so that students are ready to face any questions
Is it possible to make the students know the key points for various topics?
Go to exam hall with confidence. Sleep early like 9 or 10pm the previous day
Mathematics Formula: Write in a chart paper and hang them in front of your reading
table
Refer to previous year Public exam questions for getting the idea of style of questions
and not about the chapters where the questions come from
In exams: line space, word space and revision are vital
Dont depend on book bank; Most of the time questions dont come from there.

Career Guidance Center

31
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder on Handling Exams

Time Management in writing exams
Arrive 30 minutes before the exam
Read instructions carefully
Read the question paper thoroughly
Do the job with self-confidence: No anxiety and no tension please
Answering the questions in the order the questions are, is good
Dont write stories stick to the vital points
Concentrate on your task and writing legibly
If you want to score good, the one and only resource is the text book (Page by page, line
by line, word by word).
No need to memorize everything
Key points are vital

Career Guidance Center

32
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder on Handling Exams

Presentation as well as choosing questions (if choices given) is an art. STUDENTS
MUST MASTER THIS.
THESE MIGHT BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 190/200 STUDENT AND
AS 200/200 STUDENT.
If a derivation and a theory question are given as choices, theory answer might not give
you full marks but derivation can. At the same time, derivation if wrong will make you
loose more than what theory does.
For mathematics, its vital to practice the exercises daily
Generally, if someone is good in mathematics (with understanding and not just solving
questions), he should be good at other subjects too

Career Guidance Center

33
Career Guidance

Points to Ponder on Handling Exams

Answering question paper in its own order is vital.
Mostly the order followed is: objective questions, 3 marks, big questions
Lets say if there are 40 objective (or short) questions which require a line to three
lines maximum to answer. Its better to write them in order from 1 to 40. If you
dont answer for a question, leave space for it and go on. Writing answer is any
random order will affect the mood of the examiner.
Generally one mark excepts a single vital point. STUDENTS MUST KNOW THE
VITAL POINT.
For 5 or 10 mark questions, if there exists a diagram, then you must sketch it,
irrespective of whether you are asked or not

4:20AM 4:30AM: Recite Holy Quran and/or Salawath
4:30AM Subuh prayer: Read the subject (core subject) that you consider has tough
Dont rush and dont keep any limit on how much to read during this time
Subuh prayer: Make wudu and dont think of what you have studied just now and do prayer
(VITAL: If you keep a limit on how much to study before subuh prayer and if you dont finish, this
will affect your prayer concentration and thus dont keep any limit on how much to read)
After Subuh prayer: Drink Milk or something, if ready (Never wait for food)
5:30AM 7:30AM: Study the core subjects
Note you should study 50 minutes and take ten minutes break. During this break, relax
yourself. Go and talk to your sister/brother who is getting to go to school.
Take some biscuit or something. If breakfast is ready and you are hungry, you can take that
also.
7:30AM 8:15AM: Take bath and get ready for school. Take breakfast, if you have not take it

At School:
Make sure you have already gone through the chapter in advance.
How to read a chapter: Read the introduction and conclusion of the chapter to get the
basic idea or answer is question What is the vital concept of this chapter and where it is
used?
Then, read the whole chapter. Note: you dont need to understand the whole chapter
thoroughly now. Its just getting your brain to absorb easily when the teacher starts
teaching this chapter.
Concentrate on what is being taught.
Take points of those you think as key points.
In a class test, you can write these key points and see if they are correct. OR ask the
teacher are these the vital or key points.
As you have read the chapter earlier, now while teacher teaches you get some doubts or
gaps filled. If still doubt, just raise the question to the teacher.
VERY IMPORTANT: YOU MUST REVISE THE SAME CHAPTER THE TEACHER HAS
TAUGHT THE SAME DAY, AFTER SCHOOL.

Chart of Studying A Day Routine

At School: If you have anything more than 15 minutes as a leisure time, then utilise part of it for
revising what is taught or read language subjects. Dont read new or tough core subjects at this
time.
Lunch Break: Nice time to come back home, pray and then take lunch.
If time permits, spend 5 to 10 minutes to read a Newspaper. Its better to read a newspaper that
has contents than pictures. Dont watch TV at this time. Videos can create mind wandering
that just text or pictures.
After School Finish or 4:30PM:
Some 10 minutes: Pray and have a cup of tea with biscuit or something.
30 Minutes: Come back home and this is the time to have your 30 minutes play time.
Its good to play with those who have the same mind as you, if you playing with your
classmates. Not those who talk something useless and dont spend time on the play
Can also play with your sister or brother, as the game is a light one (Tennikoit, table
tennis, skipping, ). Dont play games that has no physical activity (like caram,
daam,). Occasionally, you could play chess or suduko or pallanguli or the like. But,
not always or regularly.

5:15PM Maghrib prayer:
Revise the chapters taught in the class.
Spend time writing and learning.
Between Maghrib prayer and Isha Prayer:
Spend some 15 to 30 minutes for recitation
Spend time just reading language course stuff
If dinner is ready, take it with pleasure
After Isha prayer until 9:30PM
Do a quick revision over what is taught today and yesterday
9PM or 9:30PM: Sleeping time.
Weekend schedule:
This is same as daily schedule, except that you have no school
May be, you are going to madrasha for some 3 hours or so
Utilise the time effectively, to revise whatever was taught for you the whole week
Write down the formula on the chart paper and hang it. Write it in bold letter so that you can
see it from a distance

Career Guidance

Chart of Studying
Please note that you follow the chart effectively after 10th standard till 12th standard.
Immediately after 10th standard exams finish:
You take some days of from your list. Go and visit some places (may be, ziyarath trip)
If you like a subject, you could spend one hour daily for that subject. Just read that subject for
11th standard. This way, you have ready that subject and you can utilise that time later to read
something else. Generally, it is better to read language subjects or those subjects (or even
specific chapters) which require understanding. Once you understand something, you will
remember it for long
The school leave after 10th standard is the best time to learn typing. It does not matter
whether you go for typewriting exam or not. But learning typing will help you use computers
faster in the future.
Studying CBSE or ICSE is good only if you are able to grasp the concepts clearly. Studying CBSE
should not be for English language sake.
If you are able to score more than 90% in CBSE 10th public exam, then you could opt to
continue your H.Sc in CBSE or ICSE itself and aim for All India level entrance exams. You
do have seats at IIT, National Institute of Technology (Formerly REC) at Trichy, and many
other good institutions.
If your 10th standard score at CBSE is less than 90%, its better to switch to State Board.

39
Career Guidance

Chart of Studying
Dont ever wait for school to conduct a test or something to test your self.
Self test is the best one. You could collect some questions and do it
If your friends can help, you can do this.
Now a days, a student can get a copy of his/her +2 public exam paper
evaluated
You can take the same question paper answer it and then compare which is
evaluated paper. This will give you whether you are with vital or key points or
not
If you can get hold of the key for any +2 public exam question, utilise it to
know how the papers are evaluated
YES YOU KNOW A SUBJECT BUT YOU SCORE LOW BECAUSE YOU DONT
KNOW TO WRITE THE WAY THE EXAMINER WANTS
YOU KNOW A SUBJECT VERY WELL BUT YOU DONT SCORE 200/200
BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW TO WRITE THE WAY THE EXAMINER WANTS

Career Guidance Center

40
Career Guidance
Chart of Studying
If you are +2 student now and are scoring around 180 or so out of 200 but want to touch the
200/200 mark, do consider these:
Check your monthly test and see what are those mistakes you are making
For any mistake, you need to learn the whole chapter again. Probably, your
understanding is wrong and thus ask your subject teacher to revise it
Your mistake might be due to carelessness. Then, you better do revision before
submitting your answer sheet in the exam hall. Try to concentrate more
Your mistake might be due to lack of knowing what to write and what not to. You need
to know the key points here
CONCLUDING POINTS:
I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW TO SUGGEST SOMEONE TO STUDY IF HE/SHE
SPENDS THREE HOURS DAILY IN TUITION CENTRES, AFTER ALL HIS SCHOOL
HOURS. YOU COULD BE ABLE TO SCORE MORE THAN 180 OR EVEN 190 BUT NOT
200/200 IN CORE SUBJECTS. YOU COULD GET 200/200 IN ONE COURSE AT
MAXIMUM.
NOTE THAT 200/200 IS VITAL AS THE CUT OFF MARK FOR GOOD MEDICINE OR
ENGINEERING COLLEGE IS 197 AND ABOVE.
IF READING A SINGLE SUBJECT AT A STRETCH IS BORING, YOU CAN SWITCH
SUBJECTS

Career Guidance
Application Guidelines NOT JUST FOR +2
After your +2 exams, spend your time for the following: Learn Islamic laws properly (as you are
going to go away and study prayer, travel rules, jummah prayer, etc); Learn some computer
courses; Learn by travelling, etc.
If you want to join a Bachelor degree
You really might not know much about the course like different engineering branches
Give preference to college (80% preference) and 20% reference to course; unless you are well
aware of the course. Placement goes to good colleges
When you choose your degree, dont keep the degree too specific. Its not good to narrow
down your options at the bachelor level. Specialize at final year project or final year course
level or during Master degree (like Nanotechnology, )
Note that certain Master degree programs accept students from various different Bachelor
streams. That means the course contents might be diluted
If you apply for MS program after BE or BTech degree:
Make sure your project in BE in the area of your interest and is exposed in your statement of
purpose. Statement of purpose should contain your area of interest in words, with appropriate
work. Statement of purpose is like an art of yourself in words
What does the companies look for when they interview graduates?
Technical strength; Basic aptitude and communication skills
They dont look for whether you have done courses outside the college
Career Guidance Center
42
Career Guidance
Application Guidelines NOT JUST FOR +2
When you are making your CV or resume
For non-Computer Science and non-IT engineering students, please make sure your CV
indicates about your projects and/or student paper presentations in the area of interest for you
and the company.
Ex. Decide which area you are interested: VLSI, Embedded System, Mobile
Communication, Image Processing, etc
Do your paper presentation, projects in your area of interest
Decide which company is interested in your area of interest
Then prepare the resume accordingly and submit
Note that Area of specialization links you to a job
If your target is IIT, then it is better to start the preparation from 9th standard. Remember, the
syllabus for IIT-JEE is in coincidence with CBSE syllabus.
Never spend one year or two just for preparing for GATE or GRE or any other exam, after your
graduation. You should not have empty slots in your CV. Its better to do some work or study
something while preparing for these exams.
Handling interviews:
Dont answer the questions as objective answer or abbreviations

43
Career Guidance
Application Guidelines NOT JUST FOR +2
If you want to join top international companies:
For software companies, look for their contest, like Microsoft Student Partnership, Google
Ambassador, IBM great mind contest, Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE), etc.
Generally, your project work should match the core area of the company
Note that sometimes these companies even provide you with opportunities to do Master
degree while working at their concern
