Colles fracture

Definition

When fracture occurs through the radius 2.5 cm


proximal to inferior radio-ulnar joint called Colles
fracture.
Common in elderly female.
Mechanism

Fall on out stretched


hand.
Deformity

Dinner fork deformity


In relation to distal
segment
Displaced dorsally
Driven proximally
Angulation dorsally &
laterally
Supination

Pain
Swelling
Restricted movement
Crepitation

Treatment

Without displacement:
long arm posterior cast
immobilization.
With displacement:
Close reduction under G/A
followed by immbilization

Immidiate : Compression in brachial artery


Tear in brachial artery
Injury to median nerve
Volkmans ischaemia
Infection
Shock
Thrombosis
