Ureteroscopy represents the therapy of choice for the treatment of

ureteric stones. In the case of bilateral synchronous ureteric calculi, the
options are between a staged or a synchronous procedure.
Bilateral ureteroscopy can be done in one sitting, obviating the need for
multiple procedures. Same-session ureteroscopy for stone disease has
been critiqued due to the theoretical risk of injury to both ureters.
Material and method

In this retrospective study of a 2-year period, between

01.2014 12.2015 at our hospital were performed 1242
ureteroscopic procedures, of witch 23 were done as

Results

In 15 patients one session bilateral ureteroscopy was performed successfuly , stones were fragmented and
extracted In 6(26.08%) patients bilateral ureteroscopy was performed, in one side the stone was extracted
successfully, in other side the stone was pushed into the kidney. All of 21 had JJ stents.
Multiple procedures, witch included ureteral dilatation, DJ stent for 1 month and another successful bilateral
ureteroscopy were needed in 2 patients.

Conclusions

Percutaneous transarterial embolization of the injured vessel is an effective, minimally invasive and
relatively easy procedure in experienced centers, with high rate of success. Trying to identify all bleeding
vessels during angiography and not using gelatin sponge as the only embolic material could increase
the succes rate.
