Introduction

The demand for energy and energy consumption is rapidly increasing

due to the increase in population, increase in the production and use of
millions of electrical and electronic appliances, building of several
industries

The source of energy is either renewable or non-renewable, where

non-renewable energy sources

The non-renewable energy sources are getting depleted from time to

time due to excessive use for energy production and the trend is
towards renewable energy sources

Introduction

A proper energy management is essential in order to limit our energy

consumptions. Among others, energy and/or electricity audit is the
.
first step to monitor and control our energy consumption and then
utilize energy saving techniques

What is an Energy audit?

Everyone knows what an audit of accounts isan examination

(and verification) of the income and expenditure of a person,
family or organization.

In the same way, an energy audit is an evaluation of energy

consumption in a home,Universites, business, or any other premises
(including church buildings).

It is generally used to determine where energy can be saved,

conserved or used more efficiently.

Why Energy Audit?
There are several levels of reasons for undertaking an energy
audit:
It helps you to lower energy bills.

It helps you to increase the life span of the equipment in your

facility.

It discovers any unaccounted consumption that may exist at

the facility

It helps reduce environmental damage and pollution.

It can increase the security of your energy supply.

Meetings with facility department:

In preliminary data collection phase, The campus logistic and

facility department was contacted to know campus electricity
distribution, electricity appliance information and electricity billing
information.

Data Collection :

Identify campus buildings and make an inventory of

campus electrical and electronic equipment types by walk-through
visits (class rooms, offices, laboratories, library, student centers,
outdoors, etc).

The electrical and electronic appliances include: lighting

devices (indoor and outdoor fluorescents and bulbs), computing
devices (desk top computers, lap top computers, printers,
projectors, etc) laboratory electrical equipment, heating and
cooling devices (air conditioners, fans, refrigerators),

Data Analysis :

Identify rated power of electrical appliances and estimate

the daily usage in hours inside the campus, compute power
consumption per day, per week, per month, per year by taking into
considerations working days, weekends, holidays. Use a power
meter device wherever necessary to measure the power
consumption of appliances. Compare theoretical electric
consumption calculations with electricity bill information.

Detailed analysis of data collected was done using Elektra

or Microsoft Excel. The database generated by Elektra was
used for producing graphical representations.

Recommendations:

Identifying power saving technical measures and usage

behavioral measures that help reduce consumption of power and
report writing of the results and findings of the audit.

How to Achieve Good results with Audit?

Power saving is achieved by reducing excess energy

consumed by lighting load. This results in substantial
increase in life of lamps, choke burning reduces, thus
reducing the heat and maintenance.

This is based on the Principle that above saturation region,

if more power is supplied to the lamps, it gets dissipated in
form of heat, thereby reducing its life. This saturation current
is controlled by adding inductive.

Objective of study:

This project targets to calculate the energy efficiency and to

reduce the energy consumption with engineering techniques
and suggest and analyze recommendations mathematically
showing the benefits and payback period

To study and understand the energy consumption in DTU.

To find out which form of energy is takes the largest
expense and why it costs are very high compared to other
energy forms DTU.
To come up with energy conservation measures in DTU.
To propose the energy efficiency project for DTU

EXPECTED OUTCOME:

it may be expected that for the future generations at DTU

Enhanced Electrical Apparatus life

Reduced maintenance cost
Reduction in maximum demand
Reduced energy Consumption
