ARCHERY
Archery is the sport, practice or skill of using a bow to
propel arrows.
The word comes from the Latin arcus.
Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat.
In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational
activity.
A person who participates in archery is typically called
an archer or a bowman
a person who is fond of or an expert at archery is called
a toxophilite.
ATHLETICS

Athletics is a collection of sportingevents that


involve competitive running, jumping, throwing,
and walking.
The most common types of athletics competitions
are track and field, road running, cross country
running, and race walking.
AUTO RACING
Auto racing (also known as car racing, motor
racing or automobile racing)
is a sport involving the racing of automobilesfor
competition.
BADMINTON
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit
a shuttlecock across a net.
"singles" (with one player per side)
"doubles" (with two players per side)
Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard
or on a beach
formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court.
Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and
landing it within the opposing side's half of the court.
BOCCE

Bocce is a ball sport belonging to the boules family


closely related to British bowls and French ptanque
with a common ancestry from ancient games played
in the Roman Empire.
BODYBUILDING
Bodybuilding is the use of progressive resistance
exercise to control and develop one's musculature.
In competitive bodybuilding, bodybuilders appear in
lineups doing specified poses
later perform individual posing routines, for a panel
of judges who rank the competitors based on criteria such
as symmetry, muscularity and conditioning.
Bodybuilders prepare for competitions through a
combination of intentional dehydration, elimination
of nonessential body fat and carbohydrate loading to
achieve maximum vascularity, as well as tanning to
accentuate muscular definition.
BOOMERANG
A boomerang is a tool, typically constructed as a
flat air foil
when thrown, is designed to spin about an axis
perpendicular to the direction of its flight.
A returning boomerang is designed to return to the
thrower.
It is well known as a weapon used by Indigenous
Australians for hunting.
BOXING

Boxing is a combat sport in which two people


wearing protective gloves throw punches at each
other for a predetermined set of time in a boxing
ring.
BOWLING

Bowling refers to a series of sports or leisure activities in which


a player rolls or throws a bowling balltowards a target.
It is one of the major forms of throwing sports.
In pin bowling variations, the target is usually to knock
over pins at the end of a lane.
When all the pins are knocked down on the first roll, this is a
strike.
In target variations, the aim is usually to get the ball as close to
a mark as possible.
BOWLS
Bowls or lawn bowls is a sportin which the objective is to roll
biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a
"jack" or "kitty".
It is played on a bowling green which may be flat (for "flat-green
bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls").
It is normally played outdoors (although there are many indoor
venues) and the outdoor surface is either natural grass, artificial
turf, or cotula (in New Zealand).
CANOEING
Canoeing is a sport or recreational activity
which involves paddling a canoe with a single-
bladed paddle.
In some parts of Europe canoeing refers to
both canoeing and kayaking, with a canoe being
called an Open canoe.
some people call them "Canadian Canoes" but
Canada wasn't the only country to invent "The
Canoe"
CrossFit
CrossFit is a branded fitnessregimen created by
Greg Glassman
Promoted as both a physical exercise philosophy
and also as a competitive fitness sport, CrossFit
workouts incorporate elements from high-
intensity interval training, Olympic
weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnasti
cs, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and
other exercises.
Croquet
Croquet is a sport that involves hitting plastic or
wooden balls with a mallet through hoops (often
called "wickets" in the United States) embedded in
a grass playing court.
Cycling
Cycling, also called bicycling or biking
is the use
of bicycles for transport, recreation, exercise or sport.
Persons engaged in cycling are referred to as "cyclists

the riding of unicycles, tricycles, quadracycles, recumbent
and similar human-powered vehicles(HPVs).
DARTS

Darts is a form of throwing game in which small


missiles are thrown at a circular dartboard fixed to a
wall.
Though various boards and rules have been used in
the past, the term "darts" usually now refers to a
standardised game involving a specific board design
and set of rules.
DANCE
Dance is a performance artform consisting of purposefully
selected sequences of human movement.
This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is
acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a
particular culture.
Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by
its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place
of origin.
DISC GOLF
Disc Golf (often referred to as frisbee golf,
frolf,or folf)
is a flying disc game, as well as a precision and
accuracy sport, in which individual players throw
a flying disc at a target.
DIVING

Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from


a platform or springboard, usually while
performing acrobatics
Diving is an internationally recognized sport that is part
of the Olympic Games.
In addition, unstructured and non-competitive diving is a
recreational pastime.
Equestrianism
Equestrianism (from Latin equester, equestr-,
equus, horseman, horse)
more often known as riding, horseback riding (American
English) or horse riding (British English)
refers to the skill of riding, driving, steeplechasing or vaulting
with horses.
This broad description includes the use of horses for
practical working purposes, transportation, recreational activities,
artistic or cultural exercises, and competitive sport.
Fencing
is a sport in which two competitors fight using
'Rapier-style' swords, winning points by making
contact with their opponent.
Figure skating
Figure skating is a sport and activity in which
individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure
skates on ice.
GOLF
Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use
various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on
a course in as few strokes as possible.
GYMNASTICS
Gymnastics is a sport involving the performance of exercises
requiring strength, flexibility, balance, agility, endurance and
control.
The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the
development of the arms, legs, shoulders, chest
and abdominalmuscle groups.
Alertness, precision, daring, self-confidence and self-discipline
are mental traits that can also be developed through gymnastics.
Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the
ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and
dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.
Knife throwing
Knife throwing is an art, sport, combat skill, or
variously an entertainment technique, involving
an artist skilled in the art of throwingknives,
the weapons thrown, and a target.
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat
sport that allows both striking and grappling, both
standing and on the ground, using techniques from
other combat sports and martial arts.
Orienteering
Orienteering is a group of sportsthat requires navigational skills
using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in
diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at
speed.
Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially
prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points.
Pool
Pool, also more formally known as pocket
billiards (mostly in North America) or pool

Powerlifting is a strength sport that
consists of three attempts at maximal
weight on three lifts: squat, bench press,
and deadlift.
Racquetball
Racquetball is a racquet sport played with a
hollow rubber ballin an indoor or outdoor court.

Rock climbing is an activity in which participants climb up,
down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls.
The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint
of a usually pre-defined route without falling.
Due to the length and extended endurance required and because
accidents are more likely to happen on descent than ascent, Rock
Climbers do not usually climb back down the route. It is very
rare for a climber to downclimb, especially on the larger
multiple pitches
Rowing
Rowing is the act of propelling a boat using the motion
of oars in the water.
The difference between paddling and rowing is that rowing
requires oars to have a mechanical connection with the boat,
while paddles are hand-held and have no mechanical connection.
Sailing
Sailing comprises wind propulsion of a craft by means
of sails or other airfoils and steering it over water, iceor land,
depending on the type of craft.
A sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails by adjusting
their angle with respect to the moving sailing craft and
sometimes by adjusting the sail area.
The force transmitted from the sails is resisted by forces from
the hull, keel, and rudder of a sailing craft, by forces from skate
runners for an iceboat, and by forces from wheels for a land
sailing craft to allow steering a course on a point of sail with
respect to the true wind.
Shooting
Shooting is the act or process of discharging firearms or
other projectileweapons such as bows or crossbows.
Even the firing of artillery, darts, grenades, rockets, and missiles can
be called shooting.
A person who specializes in shooting is a marksman
Shooting can take place in a shooting range or in the field in hunting,
in shooting sports, or in combat.
Skiing
Skiing is a mode of transport, recreational activity and
competitive winter sport in which the participant
uses skis to glide on snow.
Skimboarding
Skimboarding (or skimming) is a boardsport in which
a skimboard(much like a surfboard but smaller and without fins) is
used to glide across the water's surface to meet an
incoming breaking wave, and ride it back to shore.
Wave-riding skimboarders perform a variety of surface and air
maneuvers, at various stages of their ride, out to, and back with,
the wave.
Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a recreational activity and
Olympic and Paralympic sport that involves
descending a snow-covered slope while standing
on a snowboard attached to a rider's feet.
Snooker
is a cue sport played on a table covered with a green cloth
or baize, with pockets at each of the four corners and in the
middle of each of the long side cushions.
A full-size table measures 11 ft 8 12 in 5 ft 10 in (3569 mm x
1778 mm), commonly referred to as 12 6 ft.
Speed skating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice
skating in which the competitors race each other in
travelling a certain distance on skates.
Squash (sport)
Squash is a racket sportplayed by two (singles) or four players
(doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball.
The players must alternate in striking the ball with their racket
and hit the ball onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of
the court.
Surfing
Surfing is a surface water sportin which the wave rider, referred
to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a
moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards
the shore.

is a sport in which two or four players hit a
lightweight ball back and forth across a table using a
small bat.
The game takes place on a hard table divided by a
net.
Table football
Table football, commonly
called fuzboll or foosball (as in the
German Fuball "football") and sometimes table
soccer, is a table-top game, sport, that is loosely based
on association football.
Tai chi
Tai chi (Mandarin: tij , an
abbreviation of tij qun , literally
"Supreme Ultimate Boxing") is
an internal Chinese martial art
practiced for both its defense training and
its health benefits.
Ten-pin bowling
Ten-pin bowling is a sport in which a "bowler" rolls a bowling
ball down a wood-structure or synthetic (polyurethane) lane and
towards ten pins positioned at the end of the lane.
The objective is to score points by knocking down as
many pins as possible.
Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a


single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players
each (doubles).
Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike
a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and
into the opponent's court.
The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the
opponent is not able to play a valid return.
The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point,
while the opposite player will.
triathlon
triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the
completion of three continuous and sequential
endurance disciplines.
While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in
its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling,
and running in immediate succession over various
distances.
Triathletes compete for fastest overall course
completion time, including timed "transitions"
between the individual swim, cycle, and run
components
Wrestling
Wrestling is a combat
sportinvolving grappling type techniques such
as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint
locks, pins and other grappling holds.
