ABUNDANT MERCY OF GOD

• But because of his great love for us, God,

who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with
Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions — it is by grace you have
been saved. - Eph 2:4-5 (NIV)

ABUNDANT MERCY OF GOD
– Eph. 2:4
• Salutation and prophetic declarations
• Introduction of topic and text
• Preview of the outline
– The concept of mercy
– The object of God’s mercy
– The purpose of God’s mercy
– Have you obtained His mercy?
The Concept of Mercy
• compassion: kindness or forgiveness shown
especially to somebody a person has power
over
• compassionate disposition: a disposition to be
compassionate or forgiving of others
• Being rich in mercy means having such
disposition in abundance.
• God has power over everyone and every
situation
The Measure of Mercy
• To say that God is rich in mercy means that mercy
can be measured to know whether one has it
scarcely or abundantly
• The measure of mercy is in the expression of it.
• The more one’s mercy is unreasonable the more
we say that the person has mercy.
• .
The Object of God’s Mercy
• We are the object of God’s mercy; towards us
God has expressed His mercy.
• God created us in His image and put man in
the garden of comfort.
• He gave us guide to life eternal but we called
it law or commandment.
• Then the devil came and deceived man and
we let God down, we did what we should not
have done. Gen. 3:1-7
The Object of God’s Mercy cont.
• But when God showed up what did He do?
• Yes, He pronounced what we had brought on our
selves but out of mercy made garment of skin for
man instead of the covering of leaves –Gen. 3:21
“for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics
of skin, and clothed them.”
• Till today, when we bring about the unpleasant on
ourselves, God out of His mercy turns the
unpleasant to pleasant for us.
• Ro 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward
us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us.
The Purpose of His mercy
• He did all He did to reconcile us to Himself i.e.
ring us to life.
• Death is separation, the physical death is
separation from loved ones, and we shall all
be separated from one another at one point
or the other whether we like it or not.
• God permitted it to teach us how much He
missed us when we chose to abandon Him in
the garden of comfort.
• He want to have us back with Him in heaven.
The Call to obtain mercy
• God wants to restore you and I to the lost glory, lost
joy and lost peace.
• Are we willing to return back to Him with the whole
of heart?
• The devil has not stop the struggle for our soul
because he is envious of man; he injects thoughts of
doubt, anger and what have you, just to keep us
from God but God is rich in mercy, if you will return
to Him today, He will have you back.
