Applications of
Linear Equations.
 Alinear equation of the form ax + by + c =
0 where a = 0, b ¹ 0 is called a linear
equation in two variables.
An equation is called a linear equation in
one variable or an equation of degree one in
one variable, if only a single variable with
degree one occurs in the equation.
 Using linear equations to determine how, a bridge
will react to a load.

It's not difficult to determine the forces a structure

exerts on various points if you deform it a bit. And for
small deformations, the forces depend more or less
linearly on the deformation. Now you want to find out
how the structure will deform if you apply some force
to it somewhere. Well, you have a system of linear
equations for the force it's exerting in terms of the
deformation, so you solve it and you find the
deformation.
Its used for is various types of data compression (ever
wonder how JPEG works?) as well as cryptography.
Also, large statistical problems can sometimes be
reduced to Markov models which can be solved using
concepts from linear algebra.
It is also used in Computational algorithms for
finding the solutions are an important part of
numerical linear algebra, and such methods play a
prominent role in engineering, physics, chemistry,
computer science, and economics. A system of non-
linear equations can often be approximated by a
linear system , a helpful technique when making a
mathematical model or computer

sold 20 return tickets and 15 single
tickets collecting Rs.45 . On the
second journey he sold 15 return
tickets and 20 single tickets,
collecting Rs.42.50 . Find the price
of each kind of ticket.

handkerchiefs and 5 more socks ,
the number of socks becomes four
times the number of
handkerchiefs. Find the number of
socks and handkerchiefs.

years is added to the age of his
father , the sum is 90. if the
fathers age in years is added to
the age of the son , the sum is
