playwright, actor and poet also known as the
“Bard of Avon” and often called England’s
national poet. William Shakespeare was born
in England in 1564.

written like a fairy tale, and includes 9

Exposition: The play is set in Athens,
Greece. Theseus and Hippolyta are preparing
for their wedding. Hermia and Lysander are in
love, but another male named Demetrius loves
Hermia. Another girl named Helena is love

• Hermia's father wants his daughter to

marry Demetrius and asks the Duke to help
him fulfill the wish. But Hermia refuses,
and flee to the forest with Lysander.
Helena tells Demetrius about the escape of
Lysander and Hermia.

• Meanwhile, the fairy queen wins a fight

between the king and herself. The fairy king
in retaliation, orders Puck to put magic
medicine drops in the fairy queen's eyes to
make her fall in love with first thing when she
wakes up. Demetrius is rude to Helena, fairy
king orders that Puck put the medicine drops
to his eyes.
 Rising Action

• As the lovers wander into the forest, the

fairy king sees their problem and wants to
help Hermia and Lysander. He tells Puck
to put some of the magic medicine in
Demetrius’ eyes.
Climax
• Puck accidentally drops the drug that has been dripping on

Demetrius to Lysander, which makes Lysander and

Demetrius fall in love with Helena.

• In other parts of the forest, some carpenters rehearse their

wedding performances. Peter Quince decides to put the

donkey's head on the head of Bottom.

• Meanwhile, Titania wakes up and sees Bottom.
