IoT based Dam Monitoring System Using

Wireless Sensor Networks with Smart Pollution

Control
ABSTRACT

Because of most dams are locating far away from the city, sparsely
populated areas.
Many state parameters, such as temperature, displacement, load,
acceleration, speed, stress and tension, need to be real-time monitored.

With the help of IOT mobile network, the parameters of the dam will be
transferred to the computer server, so we can quickly and accurately grasp
the working conditions of the dam and discover hidden trouble timely in
central control room.
At the same time, we can store all monitored data, analyzing the data, we
can gather information in control center
Introduction
• Around the globe, Dam Damages and mudslides are serious
geological hazards affecting people, and causing significant
damages every year. Approximately 15% of total area of
India is susceptible to Dam Damages.
• These areas are marked as Dam Damage Hazard Zones.
Dam Damages occur mainly due to heavy rainfall
experienced by these zones during the monsoon season
and sometimes as an aftermath of an earthquake.
• The existing methods uses satellite image sensing
technology or a camera based image sensing. But these
methods are not the cheapest one also.
Existing System
• In existing system there is no automatic service for
Dam Damage prevention.
• Usual Dam Damage warning system contains the
human involved operation
• Also there is a separate operation team for monitoring
the operation of team members.
• The main drawback of the existing system was it will
consumes to much cost produce.
• The existing system needs large number of man
power unit
• Also we can't provide immediate warning.
Drawback
• The main drawback of the existing system was
it will consumes to much cost produce.
• The existing system needs large number of
man power unit
• Also we can't provide immediate warning.
Proposed System
• The project gives a cheaper method of Dam Damage
prediction and prevention based on WSN with the help
of low cost sensors.
• WSN can be extended to alert the people in their home
through nodes with sirens. By connecting it with
warning traffic lights on the road the vehicles in the
region can be alerted before a Dam Damage.
• The microcontroller chosen is based on ARM Cortex
M3 architecture. ARM Cortex M3 is the next generation
high performance 32-bit ARM core developed
specifically for microcontroller applications with
thumb-2 technology based on ARMv7-M architecture.

PROPOSED SYETM
A collection of sensor columns placed inside the vertical holes
drilled during the network deployment phase and they are installed in a
distributed manner over the monitored area.
Each sensor column has two components: the sensing component
that is buried underground and contains all the instruments, and the
computing component that stays above ground and contains the processor
and radio module.
The sensor node in our project consists of a MEMS acceleration
sensor and a soil moisture sensor, a low power data processing unit
(microcontroller) and wireless communication unit based on IOT.
Also the system will alert using the Buzzer.

• WSN can be extended to alert the people in their home through nodes
with sirens.
•All motes are battery powered and designed to be power efficient.
