Possible Problems and Solutions

Issues in maintaining positive pressure differential Solutions to the ongoing problem
Problem Definition
• Cleanroom – Definition
• Cleanroom standardization
• Cleanroom specifications – Pressure Difference/Volumetric Flow
rates/ Location of Exhaust and Inlet Air Grilles/ Filters/ Air Change
Rate/ ISO Standards
• Problem – Lack of Positive Pressure Differential leading to loss in
productivity
Controlling Factors
• Some factors that control the conditions set in the cleanroom are:
1. Air flow rate and Direction
2. Pressurization
3. Temperature
4. Humidity
5. Filter maintenance
Contaminants and its Controls
• Types and Sources of Contaminants – Film type and Particulate
• Sources of Contaminants – Facilities, People, Tool Generated, Fluids,
Product generated
• Contaminant Control – HEPA and ULPA factors, Cleanroom
architecture, Routine Cleaning
Issues in Maintaining Positive Pressure Differential
Door
Interlocks
• Leakages Sweeps

• Filter malfunction HEPA ULPA

• Air handling units being starved of air

• Blockages in inlet duct Leakages in

External blocking
Dirty air filters ductwork or
of vents
damages

Physical Obstruction
Solution Methodology
• Cleaning and Maintenance procedures
• Increase air supply through the air handling unit or decrease exhaust
air
• Micro-processor controlled system for maintaining temperature,
humidity and airflow rates
• Auto-logging of data for comprehensive and constant check
• Reduce clearances for example in door clearances and plugging the
leakages
• Reducing pressure differential of adjacent spaces
