Probe Selector explanation D C B A
Basically the function of the PSEL is the same as other Ultrasound systems.
The main functions are:
• To select one of the connected probes
• The Relay switches are used to select or deselect the probe ( operated from the panel)
• It is an interface PWB between the Probe Connectors and the PCNT PWB
• At Probe connector A and B is for Linear, Convex and Phased Array Sector probes
• At Probe connector C two options are possible:
• 1. PCAX option : For Linear, Convex and Phased Array Sector probes
• 2. PCAA option : For Phased Array sector, TEE and Annnular Array (future)
• At Probe connector D in the future a Mechanical Sector probe might be connectable

A38 PCNT PWB ( Probe Control ) Explanation
The PCNT PWB has the following main functions:
• It ‘Interfaces’ all the signals between the System Mother PWB and the PSEL PWB
• It contains the HVSW’s ( High Voltage Switches )
• The control signals for the HVSW-MUX are coming from the TXBF PWB
• The Fault detection circuit detects two kinds of fault conditions:
• High Voltage Leakage detection for detection of ‘short cuts’.
•Error codes: same as for the PV6000
• Over High Voltage detection: if a HV becomes too high or too low
•Error codes: same as for the PV6000

PWB ( Pulser ) Explanation
The TXBF PWB ( Transmit Beamformer ) has the following main functions:

• Transmitting 64 High Voltage Pulses

• To supply the Z-Convertor Power Supply (to the Z-CONV in the probe)
• To generate the HVSW-multiplexer control signals
• To detect the HV-leakage and Over High Voltage on this PWB
• To combine the Fault detection of the PCNT and TXBF PWB and send the
Fault signal to the SYSC PWB for High Voltage Shutdown and Error Message

A40 PAMP PWB ( Pre-Amplifiers )
Explanation
The first function of the PAMP PWB is to Pre-amplify the echo signals.
The PAMP PWB can have two different configurations:
• No Phased Array Sector and no CW options included
• Both Phased Array Sector and CW options included
In case of no PA Sector configuration the Delay curve for the Linear/Convex
probes is symmetrical. In this case the channels with the same delay timing can be
added together directly ( see picture below )

Explanation
The RXBF (A,B) have the following functions:

• A/D conversion of the echo signals

• Digitally Receive Delay the echo signals
• In case a PA Sector probe is connected, both RXBF A and B are needed to receive
delay the echo signals ( from PAMP PWB RX64 )
• In case a Linear/Convex is connected, only RXBF B is needed to receive delay the
echo signals ( from PAMP PWB RX32 )
• The DRFP (=Digital RF Processor) block is a digital Phase Detector
• The output of the RXBF B PWB is a Cos and Sin echo signal.

PWB Explanation
The BWPR PWB (B/W Processor) is a combination of the Receiver and B/W DSC.
It has the following functions:

• Receiver functions: Echo Filter; Log Amp & Detection; Echo

Enhancement; AGC; DR
• DSC functions: Persistance; Lateral Filter; M-Max processing;
Image Memory (IM); Separate IM for M-mode
Frame memory
It also has the FFT Doppler input.
The output is going to the ECDC PWB

The Nemio 10 and 20 - BWPR has an Image

Memory for 63 images (CMEM63-sub PWB), CMEM63 or CMEM255
but (optional ) this can be replaced by Sub-PWB
CMEM255 (for 255 images) (UIME-551A).
The Nemio 30 has standard a CMEM255 sub-
PWB

ENC/DEC ( or TV-PROC).
It has the following functions:

•CFM Smooth ( before located on the Color DSC )

•RGB CONV functions: - Combine B/W and Color information and convert it
into Red, Green and Blue video signals.
- Convert R,G,B into analog (non)-interlaced R,G,B
- Generation of Color Bar
•ENC/DEC functions: - Encode (R,G,B -> Composite Video) en Decode
(Composite Video -> R,G,B) the video signals.
- Video Selector to switch all the video signals to the
right places

A69 RPNL PWB (Rear Panel)
explanation
The RPNL PWB does not contain any electronics but is the ‘connector’ PWB for
video/audio signals and control signals ( RS232,SCSI,Mouse etc.)
The back of this PWB is directly connected to the ECDC PWB (for video/audio)
and the SYSC PWB for the control signals.

If this PWB is taken OFF, there is no image on the monitor.

If you want to display an image without this RPNL PWB, a Rear Panel Jig can be
connected as a service tool.

Basically the SYSC PWB *** has the same functions as the CPU PWB in previous
systems. This PWB has a RISK SH4 microprocessor.
The functions are:

• Real time clock (connected to battery)*

• Flash ROM’s containing the systems software**
• Panel I/F with the CTPN PWB (under the Main Panel)
• LAN control for Ethernet connection
• USB control (for future features)
• Serial Control (RS232)
• Floppy disk control
• SCSI control

• *: If you disconnect the battery from the SYSC you have to set the Time Clock again
After disconnection the first start-up gives a shifted image on the monitor.
Please restart again for a normal image.
• **: These flash ROM’s can be (re) loaded with software from MO- or floppy disks
• ***: If you replace a defective SYSC PWB, please re-enter the Serial number in the
Service Menu ! After this you can re-install the options which were installed before.

Software handling
The systems software is stored on Flash ROM’s on the SYSC PWB.
System (or Optional ) Software can be loaded into these Flash ROM’s from MOD or floppy
disks.
For version-up upgrade kits ( loading new system software ), new software can easily be
loaded from MO or floppy (floppies in case of Nemio 10:
•Switch OFF the system
•Insert the MO disk (or first floppy disk)
•Switch ON the system while holding the FREEZE button (until Freeze button detection)
•Software will automatically be loaded*

*: Loading the MO disk will take about 10 minutes

Loading the floppy disks (Nemio 10) will take about half an hour

Diagnostics

The Diagnostic tests will take about 4 minutes. While the tests are executed two windows
will pop up : Please turn on the lamp under the monitor ( this is for a proper power
voltage measurement of the RGLT PWB.
The other message is : Please connect an array transducer to port A ( connect any

Troubleshooting the Power Supply (1)
If it seems that there is no power: no monitor image and no panel operation,
please check the following:
On the rear panel board (RPNL PWB) there is a 3.3 V indicator.
If this LED is ON, the following Power Supply parts are probably OK:
LNF, Transformer and SWRG PWB and HVPS.
So most probably the A02 RGLT PWB is broken

Troubleshooting the Power Supply (2)
If it seems that there is no power: no monitor image and no panel operation, and if
the LED is OFF, please first check if the Auxiliary outputs are there ( 230 V ).
If these outputs are normal, most probably the SWRG is broken.
It these outputs are abnormal, the Line Filter or the Transformer might be broken.
Please measure the output of the Line Filter by dis-assembly this Line Filter.
