POINTS TO REMEMBER
 Place :-Each digit has a fixed position
called its place.
 Place Value :- Place value of a digit in
a numeral is the product of the digit
and its place in the numeral.

11
THE PLACE AND PLACE VALUE OF 8 IN
78345 IS…..

 The place is Thousands

 The place Value is 8thousands

13
PERIODS

As the size of a number

increases, we find it difficult to
read the number.
So, to read the numerals for
large numbers without any
difficulty, we group the places
into periods.
14
PERIODS FOR 6- DIGIT NUMBER
class iv numbers upto 9,99,999

15
POINTS TO REMEMBER
 While reading the numerals of a
number, all the digits in the same
period are read together, and the name
of the period(except the ones) is read
along with them.
 In order to separate the periods, we
leave a little space or insert commas in
between the periods, e.g. 643934 is
written as 6 43 934 or 6,43,934
Refer worksheet-5

16
EXPANDED FORM
Expanded form of a numeral is the sum
of the place values of each digit of the
numeral.

Example :-
3498 =
3thousands+4hundreds+9tens+8ones
OR 3000+400+90+8

17
3 DIFFERENT WAYS OF
EXPANDED FORM

18
WORKSHEET
Write the given numerals in expanded
form in 3 different ways.
a) 4,34,608
b) 89,004
c) 75,800
d) 9,99,999
e) 8,70,654

19
HOW TO COMPARE THE NUMBERS?
Let us find
7,53,826 7,53,829
Step1. Numbers of digits are 6 in both numerals.

Step2. Digits at lakh place ,ten thousands place, thousand

place, hundred place and tens place are same.
But the digits at ones place are different.

⇒ 7,53,826 < 7,53,829.

Similarly 2,00,832 < 6,81,031
87,259 = 87,259
Refer worksheet -7 of Primary Mathematics
