Background

Schizopherinia including psychosis illness
with the character of chaos in mind and
personality that is existence of fantasy, regression,
hallucinations, delusion, and withdrawal from the
environment.
One of the techniques in use is but guided
imagery
Purpose

To determine the effect of guided imagery
therapy on changes in anxiety level in
schizophrenic patients at RSJD Surakarta.
Method

Kind of the research is quasy experiment, one group
pretest-posttest design. The sampling teqnique with
purposive sampling. The sample 34 respondents.

Univariate analysis of data on anxiety levels of


patients before undergoing guided imagery therapy
82.4% or 28 patients included in the category of
moderate anxiety level and 17.6% or 6 patients had
anxiety level included in the mild category.

70.6% or 24 patients had anxiety levels
included in the moderate category and 29.4%
or 10 patients included in the mild anxiety
level category.

Based on the result of Paired Sample t test obtained t
value = 10,573 with p = 0,001. Because the results show
that p <0.05 then Hhitung rejected, meaning there is
influence of guided imagery therapy on the level of
anxiety in patients with schizophrenia in Surakarta
Regional Mental Hospital.
Discussion

The results of this study suitable with the research by
Imam Hanafi, (2014) The level of anxiety of patients
after undergoing guided imagery treatment at
Surakarta Regional Mental Hospital found that 70.6%
or 24 patients had anxiety levels included in the
moderate category and 29.4% or 10 patients included
in the mild anxiety level category
Implication

Nursing action for handling patient anxiety problem that
can be in the form of independent action by nurse,
example like relaxation technique and distraction. One of
the relaxation techniques used to overcome anxiety in
patients is guided imagery therapy, because relaxation
techniques is an action to divert attention and reduce the
anxiety experienced by patients. Guided imagery is a
technique that uses the imagination of individuals with
directional imagination to reduce stress on schizophrenia.
Excess Journal

Based on statistical test result, guided imagery
technique can be used as one of alternative method to
decrease anxiety level (Beebe & Wyatt, 2009).

The time or duration of the treatment of guided
imagery therapy on anxiety level changes is not
included.
