 VISION CORRECTION PROCEDURES

Most vision correction procedures are based on the premise

of reshaping the cornea to change the way light is refracted
by it thus improving vision & reducing dependency on
glasses/contact lenses.

We are providing the following vision correction procedures:

Cataract surgery is a routinely performed eye surgery around the
world and also at Finland Eye Center

How is the surgery done at FEC?

At FEC, different techniques can be used for cataract surgery,
depending on the patient’s needs and surgeon’s decision- the
most common method is “phacoemulsification”, which involves
a small incision through which the surgeon accesses the
cataract.

Alternatively, a larger “ECCE” incision can be made (sometimes

for very mature cataracts). The cataract/lens is then removed by
breaking it down into smaller pieces or extracted as one piece.

A clear, plastic lens called an intraocular lens, or IOL, is then

inserted. Sutures may be used to close the incision.
 KERATOCONUS MANAGEMENT
Keratoconus is a progressive thinning and steepening condition
of the cornea. Normally, the outermost layer of the eye, or
cornea, is a smooth an evenly-rounded surface that refracts
light in a uniform fashion.

How is keratoconus managed?

 All possible management options are available at Finland Eye
Center from non-invasive to surgical.

 In the early stages, special contact lenses can be fitted.

 Another option available at FEC is the implantation of intra

corneal rings (ICR). These tiny semi-circular devices can be
placed inside the cornea to provide more effective support of
the cornea.

 Next option is corneal cross-linking (CXL). This is a

combination of riboflavin & UV-A light applied to the cornea to
strengthen the structure.
Additional Surgeries
 Corneal Cross Linking (CXL)
CXL is an out-patient procedure to strengthen and stabilize a
weak, unstable cornea. CXL is most commonly used to treat
keratoconus patients or corneal ectasia occurring after refractive
surgery.

 Intracorneal Rings (ICR)

Intracorneal rings are microthin curved implantable devices
made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) that are used to
manage keratoconus.

 Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA)

FFA is an investigation of the back of your eye (retina/fundus)
that is done using an orange fluorescein.This is done to capture
and highlight circulation issues such as leaking or blocked blood
vessels in your eye and help to diagnose retinal conditions.
