What is Bullying?
◦ Bullying is an unwanted,aggressive behavior. The behavioris repeated,or can be
repeated,overtime.

Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or


aggressively dominate others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential
prerequisite is the perception, by the bully or by others, of an imbalance of social or
physical power, which distinguishes bullying from conflict.
◦ Bullying is a aggressive behavior intended to hurt another individual, physically, mentally or
emotionally.
There are different classsififications of
bullying.these are;
◦ Verbal bullying-saying or writing mean and nasty things. It includes:
o Teasing
o Name calling
o Making inappropriate sexual comments
o Taunting
o Threatening to cause harm
o Social bullying(Relational bullying )-
Hurting someones reputation or
relationships.it includes;

o Telling other children not to be friends with someone


o Spreading rumors about someone
o Embarrassing someone in public
• Physical Bullying-hurting a persons
body or destroying hes/her
possessions.itb includes;
o Hitting/kicking/pinching
o Spitting
o Tripping/pushing
o Taking or breaking someones things
o Making mean or rude hand gestures
• Cyber Bullying-verbal and social
bullying than through use of
technology and electronic
means.it includes;
o Using social media(i.e.facebook,twitter, etc.)
o Using mobile devices(i.e.Cellphone.)
o Using Electronic mails(i.e.e-mails)
The effects of bullying
◦ Suicide- Depression is one of the main reasons why kids who are bullied commit suicide.
◦ Violence- It is realised from these recent studies that individuals who were previously
involved in a violent childhood whom was effected mentally and emotionally due
these experiences later rationally adapts this violent behaviour and provokes other
victims.
◦ Positive development-means of reducing bullying incidence rates and a valuable skill-
set for individuals.
