Epidemiology of specific AV blocks in the United States


• All types of AV blocks occur more frequently in people
older than 70 years, especially in those who have
structural heart disease.
International data
• The international incidence is similar to that of the
United States.
Age-, sex-, and race-related demographics
• A 60% female preponderance exists in congenital third-
degree AV block; for acquired third-degree AV block, a
60% male preponderance exists. No racial proclivity
exists in AV blocks.
