Planning Before a Visit


• Check for availability of file no, Zig no, BV client, QAP,
drawings, approval before planning a visit.
• Inform the vendor about your scheduled visit.
• Discuss with the vendor regarding the documents, tools and
instruments required for inspection.
• Insist on use of Calibrated Instruments.
• Keep the vendor informed if there is any change in the schedule
of inspection.
• Go through relevant codes and specifications for the items to
be inspected.
• Understand the end use of the item & plan value addition.

Planning Before a Visit


• Check for availability of file no, Zig no, BV client, QAP,
drawings, approval before planning a visit.
• Inform the vendor about about your scheduled visit.
• Discuss with the vendor regarding the documents, tools and
instruments required for inspection.
• Insist on use of Calibrated Instruments.
• Keep the vendor informed if there is any change in the schedule
of inspection.
• Go through relevant codes and specifications for the items to
be inspected.
• Understand the end use of the item & plan value addition.

• Getting Started
» Make an entry pass wherever required.
» Do not wear casuals.
» Use safety shoes, boiler suits, helmets wherever necessary.
» Get acquainted to the atmosphere of the site. Ask and check drawings,
Purchase order and other inspection documents before starting
inspection.
» Verify / go through the records of previous stages, check with your
colleagues if you find a missing link.

• Inspection
» Try & make good the short-comings in earlier inspections within your
limits, otherwise report to office. Discuss the matter during your next visit
to office to take necessary precautions, so that they are not repeated.
» Collect a copy of deviation/waiver (if any) and keep a record of it in the file
after returning to office.
» Always remember that PO requirements supersedes specification
requirements.
» While asking for check testing, indicate what are the tests required.
» Interact and discuss with responsible person In office, about progress/
inadequacies if any.
» Verify the requirement before testing/ stamp transferring at lab.
» Give amicable value addition where warranted & possible during
inspection, without any obligation to surveyor (yourself) or BV.

4a Preparing Reports Line and Length

Making Reports
• Reporting Do’s
» Each Inspection Visit needs to have an Inspection report.
» Report should clearly indicate how, where and which stamps have been
used.
» Randomly selected samples should be identified uniquely and the same
should be clearly indicated in the RN/ IR.
» Always check if Inspection of Packing/ Marking/ Painting is in BV scope or
not.
» Use personal log book – each surveyor is responsible for proper
performance of the services assigned to him.
» Inspection Reports should be properly numbered.
» Laboratory Report for PTC’s should be marked as, “Visiting surveyor to
check for requirement of code”.
