Duties of the Congregation

…but when the day of atonement

came, there were special
requirements enjoined upon them
during that day, which if they failed to
observe, they were cut off from the
people of Israel.
 God has enjoined special duties
upon the last generation, that they
might be more strongly fortified
against the attacks of the enemy, and
not be overthrown by his devices.
 Leviticus 23:27-28. “Also on the tenth day of this
seventh month there shall be a day of atonement, it
shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall
afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire
unto the LORD. And ye shall do no work in that same
day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an
atonement for you before the LORD your God.”

heart, put away every sin,
spend time in prayer.
- With this was connected
abstinence from food;
FASTING.
- During this day, there
was to be complete
CONTROL of the appetite
