Quality
Buildings built on Energy and environmental
efficient standards -
 Site selection: Close to municipal infrastructure; not in fertile farm land; away from ecologically critical
spots
 Design: Maximize use of natural contours, light, heat, wind and water; minimize built area
 Construction: Prevent destruction of tree cover, top soil, and natural water channels; use low-energy
recycled material
 Products, systems and processes:
 that reduce energy (lighting and cooling)
 that reduce, recycle and recharge water;
 that reduce and recycle waste
 Renewable Energy technologies

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the

global standard and TERI-GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated
Habitat Assessment) is National standard for green-building
certification.
In both cases, credits are given for every element that reduces a
building’s ecological footprint.

Innovative space heating and cooling solutions-
integrated approach!
 Cooling and heating account for over
30% of global energy consumption.
 Innovative space heating and cooling is
not new. The Romans, 2000 years ago,
used under floor radiant heating and
thermal mass heat storage in their
hypocausts. In Turkey, stream water was
run through channels in walls and floors
to cool palaces in the warm summers .
 In the 1930s, architect Frank Lloyd
Wright piped hot water through the
floors of many of his buildings
 Based on following technologies -
 Geothermal - geoexchange heating
and cooling
 Passive / free cooling and Earth air
tunnel
 Thermal storage These are reliable and proven
 radiant cooling solutions that can offer attractive
 Chilled beam systems. payback in new installation between 2
– 4 years
SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEMS

 Evacuated-tube technology is superior to traditional flat-plate

systems:
 15% greater efficiency in tapping solar radiation
 10% reduction in installed cost
 This leads to significant drop in total cost of ownership
 Industrial scale from 5000 LPD to 1000000 LPD of water heating options -
temp raise from 25-30 deg C to 75-80 deg C.
 Payback of around 2-2.5 years
GREEN LIGHTING – LED/ENERGY EFFICIENT

Lights sources must be as small as

possible, produce light efficiently and
have long life.
Combination of LEDs, CFLs and T5’s
with electronic ballast, efficient
reflectors and casing can significantly
reduce long-term costs
W ip r o S c e n e S e le c t M o d u le S S M 8 8 0 •With payback period (<4 years), but
completely green system with zero-
carbon footprint
Innovative cooling solutions- Geothermal

 Geothermal system:
 At a depth of 100-400 feet, temperatures remain
constant through the year– depends on site and soil
condition.
 Geothermal systems use this temperature differential
(surface vs. depth) for heating/cooling
 A coolant is pumped underground for heat exchange
 This significantly reduces the overall tonnage of the
compressor and energy consumption
 This will be coupled with a passive cooling system,
where an underground air tunnel will be used to cool-
down ambient air
 Energy consumption reduction upto 40%-65%
depending on location when combined with earth air
tunnel
 Average Payback around 3 years
Innovative cooling solutions-

 Radiant cooling systems:

 . Is a surface cooling system where the water tubes
are placed in the roof slab absorbs the heat from heat
sources in a room. The Slab absorbs the heat and
exchanges it with the circulating water. The warm
water is then pumped to a chiller or a geothermal
heat exchanger , re cooled and returned to the slab
Low cost passive and low energy cooling system - Earth air
tunnel with night sky and stack ventilation-
{Shown is a Site specific system}

Unique technology to combine night sky, earth air tunnel & stack effect system to
cool, ventilate and heat naturally
Low cost natural ventilation effect:
Innovation cooling systems - Technology of
chilled Beam systems

 It is essentially a ceiling mounted induction unit with ventilation air

passed through the duct that is part of the chilled beam and induces
room air up over the cooling coil mixes with the primary ventilation
air and delivers it through the linear diffusers.

 Chilled beams can other wise be called as Fan coil units with out fan

 The unit removes only sensible load and hence uses dry cooling coil
Bio-Methane - recycle biodegradable waste to
sustain energy production:

 True alchemy; can handle all kinds of biodegradable waste -Food waste, animal
waste, paper
 1 Ton waste generates 2 LPG @19kg each-cylinders worth of gas or can generate
upto 120-140 units of electricity a day with biogas power generator.
 Our aerobic-anaerobic process is superior to traditional anaerobic systems:
 Can handle greater diversity of waste
 50% reduction in process time
 Odorless/weedless byproduct that can serve as urea substitute
 No scum generated
 Equipment does not corrode
 Area required approx 100 m2 for a 1 ton input organic waste / day plant.
 Payback period around 2 – 3 years
RAIN WATER HARVESTING- INTEGRATED APPROACH
 During monsoons, the earth absorbs up to 30%
of rainfall. This can drop to as low as 0-5% for
built areas. One Acre of land receives over 3
million liters of water in single monsoon season
depending on rainfall in that area.
 The remaining water runs off, and is lost
 Rainwater harvesting captures runoff water to
store & reuse, or to recharge the water table.
 Runoff water channeled using pipes into a basic
filtration system, and then into a large storage
tank
 This water could be used for non-potable
purposes
 Water overflows from the storage tank will be
used to recharge the water table using aquifers
 Opportunities to become water positive and
ensuring water sustainability
