THE NOTION OF AN INTEGUMENT SYSTEM

The integument system is an organ system that

distinguishes, separates, protects and informs
animals about their surroundings. This system is
part of the largest organ system that includes
skin, hair, feathers, scales, nails, sweat glands
and products in the form of sweat or mucus. The
intergument is derived from the Latin
integumentum, which means closing. This organ
is the largest organ, thinnest, and very
important. The specific character of this organ is
able to repair itself or self-repairing and become
the body's first defense mechanism
INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM FUNCTIONS
The integument system functions, including:
 As a protector of drought, invasion of
microorganisms, ultraviolet light, and
mechanical, chemical, or temperature
 As a sensation receiver in the form of touch,
pressure, pain and temperature
 As a temperature regulator is to reduce heat loss
during cold temperatures and increase heat loss
during hot temperatures
 As a metabolic function of storing energy through
fat reserves; synthesis of vitamin D
 As a function of excretion is to remove sweat, oil
and salt.
SKIN

Human skin consists of epidermis and dermis.

The skin serves as a means of excretion because
of the sweat glands (sudorifera glands) located
in the dermis layer. The skin is the largest organ
in the body, covering 12-15% body weight and
surface area of 1-2 meters
THE SKIN CONSISTS OF THREE LAYERS
1. Epidermis (outer thin layer),
2. Dermis (middle layer),
3. Subcutis (deepest part).
HAIR

It is present throughout the skin except the

palms of the feet and the dorsal portion of the
distal phalanx of the fingers, legs, penis, labia
minora and lips.

There are 2 types of hair, namely:

· Hair terminal (can be long and short)

· Velus hair (short, smooth and soft).

NAIL

The dorsal surface of the distal end of the fingers

or toes is a hard and transparent keatin plate
which grows from a root called a cuticle. Serves
to lift small objects. Average growth of 0.1 mm /
day. Total renewal of finger nails: 170 days and
toenails: 12-18 months.sat attention to health
problems and solving individual health problems
GLANDS - SKIN GLANDS

1. Sebaceous glands
2. Sweat glands
3. Apocrine gland
INFECTION

Cellulitis is a common serious skin infection of

the skin. Cellulitis appears as a red swollen area
of skin that feels hot and soft, and can spread
rapidly. The skin on the lower leg is most
commonly affected, although cellulitis can occur
anywhere on the body or face.
ALLERGY

Allergy is a disorder of the immune system, also

called atopy.
Allergic reactions are triggered by harmless
substances called allergens.
Allergy (type 1 hypersensitivity) is one of 4 types
of hypersensitivity.
The hallmark of allergy is the over activation of
Mast cells and basophils by IgE resulting in an
extreme inflammatory response
