Working Mode of the Probe
 The Probe can work in two different working modes. One for
testing and recording data. The other is for replaying and
analyzing data.

By working with the test terminal and other external devices,

Drive 

the Probe collects the air interface data and records the test
Test data (saving the test data in logfiles). During the data
Mode collection, you can also observe the test data in real time.

 The Probe reads the test data from logfiles and replays
Replay logfiles for inspection and analysis. During the replay, you
Mode can adjust the replay speed and assign the replay start point
to facilitate the problem identification and analysis.

Managing Logfiles
 During tests, test data is saved in .gen files that are called
logfiles. Managing logfiles contains:
 Recording Logfiles

 Segmenting Logfiles

 Replaying Logfiles

 Exporting Logfiles

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page89
Segmenting Logfiles
 You can segment logfiles as required. You can record
logfiles of different sizes or different periods in different files
for better management.

 The Probe supports automatic logfile segmentation and

manual logfile segmentation.
 Automatic logfile segmentation had better be performed before
the logfile is recorded.

 Manual logfile segmentation should be performed when the

logfile is recorded.

 Before replaying logfile, you can preview the drive test

route and the key events in the map window.

 During a replay, you can adjust the replay rate and specify
the start point for the replay.

 You can open only one logfile at a time.

Single Site Verification Overview
 Principle :
 The SSV (Single site verification) refers to the self-test and
verification of the equipment at each site.

 Objective:
 The SSV aims to ensure that basic functions of all cells in each
site to be rolled out or swapped are normal before the Cluster
optimization.

 Focus on three indicators to verify: FTP upload / download

throughput, Ping delay, antenna reversed.

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page103
Single Site Verification Preparation
 Determine the test content, methods and deliverables: you
need to determine the test content, test methods and
deliverable templates with the customers in advance.

 Need to make sure there is enough bandwidth to configure

FTP server stability, drive test terminal and software.

 Lay down a plan : thus the need to lay down a plan for a
single site verification, and progress tracking table.

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page104
Single Site Verification Implement
 When problems be found in single site verification, you need
deal with them in time, then test it again to make sure the
problems are all be solved.

 The most common problems in actual projects are:

Antennas reversed
Throughput is substandard

Optimization

Cluster Optimization Overview
 After single site verification, you need to optimize the network
performance according to the cluster, this is the key link of the LTE
network optimization.

 In the LTE project, it is recommended to optimize and verify

according to cluster. One cluster usually contains 20~30 sites, it is
recommended after 80% sites pass the SSV, the cluster
optimization will start, the remained 20% sites will start single site
verification after deployment.

 Cluster optimization focus on network coverage, accessibility,

retainability (call drop rate), mobility( handover success rate),
throughput and other KPIs.

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page107
Cluster Optimization Preparation
 Before cluster optimization, you need to have adequate
preparation:
 Cluster division and border definition

 Make sure test routes

 Make sure test methods

 Test tools preparation

 Test tools verification

 Optimization planning establishment

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page108
Cluster Test
 After various aspects work of preparation to be completed,
according to the planning to perform the Cluster test. There are
some attentions in the Cluster test:
 In the process of drive test, the background must guarantee the work of
network equipment is steady, and it is forbidden to do any network
operation.

 In the process of drive test, you can trace the signaling according to the
actual situation on the backstage.

 In the process of drive test, testing team needs to pay attention to

access, call drop as well as throughput tendency of the terminal closely.

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page110
Case 1:Find Weak Coverage Area by
Drive Test
 Perform drive tests in zero-load
environments to obtain the
distribution of signals on test
routes. Then, find a weak
coverage area based on the
distribution, as shown in the
figure.

 Adjust RF parameters of the

eNodeB covering the area.
Suggest to use simulation tool to
predict the adjustment effect.

Copyright © 2013 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page111
Case 2: Cross Coverage Caused by
Improper Tilt Settings
 Symptom:
Before tilt
 As shown in the upper adjustmen
right figure, cross t

coverage occurs in a cell

whose PCI is 288.
Therefore, the cell
interferes with other After tilt
cells, which increases adjustmen
t
the probability of service
drops.

Inter-Frequency/Inter-RAT Interoperation
Optimization
 You must choose to the scenario which can trigger the UE to
perform reselection for idle mode reselection test and redirection
for connected mode redirection test. namely UE moves from the
LTE coverage area to only the UMTS/GSM coverage , it is
recommended to test in the metro station or shopping mall. CSFB
may choose one Cluster to carry on the calling and called test.

 Inter-frequency/inter-RAT interoperation test, including:

 Reselection in idle mode
 Redirection in connected mode
 CSFB

Reselection Test in Idle Mode
 When UE is in the center of LTE coverage area, the
observation is whether the UE will camp on the LTE network
side finally in IDLE mode.

 When UE moves to the LTE edge, whether the UE will

reselect the UMTS/GSM network normally, essential
messages: In the RRC Connection Request message of the
UMTS Uu interface, it includes:

, and it
has the corresponding RAU process in the UMTS side.

Redirection Test in Connected Mode
 UE initiates the PS service in the LTE coverage region, when it
moves to the LTE edge, whether the UE redirect to the UMTS/GSM
network, whether it has the corresponding RAU flow.

 Essential messages: there are redirection frequency informations in

RRC Connection Release messages of the LTE Uu interface, as
shown as the following chart, and it has the corresponding RAU
process in the UMTS side.

CSFB Test
 Use the UE which supports the voice service(Huawei
Ascend D2 and ZTE U9815 and HTC Holiday mobile phone
etc.) initiates calling/ called (MO/MI) voice service in the
LTE coverage region, observes the network change of UE
camping.
 If after MI/MO, the network which UE camps becomes from 4G
to 3G immediately, and connects after about 4 seconds, that
may be initially judged the CSFB is successful.
 If after MO, the UE camps on the 4G network in several
seconds, later moves to the 3G network, after several seconds
it connects, and MI fails, you may judge the CSFB fails.
