DESIGN
DEFINITION
The research design refers to the overall strategy that you
choose to integrate the different components of the
study in a coherent and logical way, it constitutes the
blueprint for the collection, measurement, and analysis of
data.
RESEARCH
DESIGN
SIGNIFICANCE
Research design is significant
simply because it allows for
the smooth sailing of the
various research operations,
thus making research as
efficient as possible
producing maximum
information with nominal
expenses of effort, time and
money.

CONTENT
1. Statement of research objectives, i.e., why
the research project is to be conducted
2. Type of data needed
3. Definition of population and sampling
procedures to be followed
4. Time, costs, and responsibility
specification
5. Methods, ways, and procedures used for
collection of data
6. Data analysis – tools or methods used to
analyze data
7. Probable output or research outcomes
and possible actions to be taken based on
RESEARCH

PRINCIPLES
1. Planning your research
2. Correlational and experimental research
3. Types of variables
4. Manipulating independent variables
5. Confounding and control
6. Generalizability: Replication and interactions

DESIGN
TYPES
COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED
DESIGN
In a completely randomized design,
treatment levels or combinations are
assigned to experimental units at
random. This is typically done by
listing the treatment levels or
treatment combinations and assigning
a random number to each.
RANDOMIZED
COMPLETE
BLOCK DESIGN
In Randomized Complete Design (CRD),
there is no restriction on the allocation of
the treatments to experimental units. But
in practical life there are situations where
there is relatively large variability in the
experimental material.
CORRELATIONA
L
Correlational research is a type of
nonexperimental research in which the
researcher measures two variables and assesses
the statistical relationship (i.e., the
correlation) between them with little or no
effort to control extraneous variables.
