STRUCTURAL VIBRATION CONTROLLER FOR SMART STRUCTURES 22

INTRODUCTION
• Structural vibrations are inevitable
and mostly undesirable.
• It is necessary to keep them with
specified limits.
• Smart Structures play a pivotal
role in the control and damping of
structural vibration.

RESONANT CONTROLLERS FOR
SMART STRUCTURES
 This paper proposes a special type of co-located feedback controllers
for smart structures.

 The controller consists of parallel combinations of high-Q resonant

circuits in which each resonant circuit is tuned to a pole.

 The experimental setup (one sensor-actuator pair + one actuator for

disturbance, beam) is implemented in dSPACE platform.

 This presents the modelling and Design
 In this paper, direct output feedback of a Beam on which PZT patches are
based active vibration control has been bonded on the top and bottom
surface as Sensor/Actuator collocated
implemented on a cantilever beam
pair is presented.
using lead zirconate-titanate (PZT)

sensors and actuators.
using Proportional Integral Derivative
 Three PZT patches were used in the (PID) Controller.

experimental setup. One as an exciter,  The beam is assumed as Euler-Bernoulli

another as sensor and other as beam. The two PZT patches are also
treated as Euler-Bernoulli beam

Charge-driven
 The experimental implementation of a
multivariable resonant controller with charge
driven actuators on a piezoelectric laminate
cantilever beam.

 This setup uses charge amplifiers to reduce the

hysterical nature of the piezoelectric actuators.
