AIM OF THE PROJECT

• 1.To analyse the truss and

find the member forces of it
by using method of joints.
• 2.Design the members of the
truss that are given in the
problem statement
• 3.Simultaneously design the
conncetions that have been
given in the problem
statement.
PROCEDURE:

• Assumptions for designing:

• 1.All loadings are applied at the
joints.
• 2.The members are joined
together by smooth pins.
• A.Truss Analysis:
• 1.To find out the reactions of
the two ends,we need to use the
equilibrium equations:
TRUSS ANALYSIS USING METHODS OF JOINTS:
2.After using the equations reactions forces are found to be

Calculation of internal forces in members:

3.After analzing the joints by method of joints
L0,L1,U1,L2,U2,U3,L6,L5,U5,U4,L4 I have determined all the member
forces of the truss.
m1=281.8 kN(C) m2=225.28 kN(C) m3=179.04 kN(C)
m4=246.3 kN(T) m5=246.3 kN(T) m6=196.58 kN(T)
m7=15 kN(T) m8=56.56 kN(C) m9=37.46 kN(T)
m10=60.45 kN(C) m11=113.78 kN(T) m12=179.04 kN(C)
m13=228.50 kN(C) m14=274.90 kN(C) m15=199.71 kN(T)
m16=240.26 kN(T) m17=240.26 kN(T) m18=65.28 kN(C)

m19=32.52 kN(T) m20=46.39 kN(C) m21=15 kN(T)

• DESIGN STRENGTH OF BOLT:
• Shear capacity,V(dsb)=V(nsb)/factor of safety=28.974 kN
• Bearing capacity,V(dpb)=V(nb)/factor of safety=51.2 kN
• Taking minimum of these, I found design strength as 28.974 KN
• No of bolts=Factored load in member/Design strength of each bolt
CONNECTION L1
MEMBER FACTORED NO OF MEMBERS FACTORED NO OF BOLTS
S LOAD BOLTS LOAD
m1 422.7 kN 15
m4 369.45 kN 13
m2 337.92 kN 12
m5 369.45 kN 13
m7 22.5 kN 1

m8 84.84 kN 3
m7 1
22.5 kN
C.Designing of members
Design of tension members:
• From the problem statement, the tension members are found to be m4,m5,m7.
• Steps:
GROSS SECTION YIELDING NET SECTION FAILURE BLOCK SHEAR FAILURE
iiii m4=511.18 kN≥factored
load(369.4kN)
m4=403.64 kN≥factored m4= For Case 1=386.56 kN>=P
load(369.4kN) For Case 2=460.56 kN>=P
m5=511.18 kN≥factored
m5=403.64 kN≥factored load(369.4kN) m5=For Case 1=386.56 kN>=P
load(369.4 kN) For Case 2=460.56 kN>=P

m7=59.32 kN>=factored m7=59.28 kN>=factored load(22.5

load(22.5 kN) kN) m7=For Case 1=4142 kN>=P
For Case 2=44.28>=P

In all the cases,the member force is found out to be greater than the factored load.
So our design is safe.
Compression Members
• From the problem statement, the compression members are found to be
• Steps
Members fcd fcd Slenderness Factored load Designed load(kN)
Assumed(MPa) Calculated(MPa) ratio (kN)

m1 90 143.12 75.55 422.7 726.91

m2 100 144.96 74.4 337.92 501.92

m8 90 83.8 123.83 84.84 87.74

• In all the cases,the member force is found out to be greater than the factored load.
So our design is safe.
CONCLUSION
• 1.For all no of bolts if we take that no of bolts then there should
be no of bolts on each side. If the no of bolts are increasing
then we should make it even. So member is going to be safe.
• 2.From all the calculations I have found that design
forcew>=member force.Hence our design is safe.
