ASSISTIVE

TECHNOLOGY

Madeline Goehman
Dyslexia

– Dyslexia occurs in children with normal vision and intelligence.

– Symptoms include late talking, learning new words slowly, and a delay in
learning to read.
– The Reading Focus Card allows students with disabilities such as dyslexia or
ADD/ADHD to easily read text by viewing it one line at a time
– Another feature of the Card is that it comes in a variety of colors ranging from
light pastels to brighter tones. This is effective for students because oftentimes,
the white background of normal texts can be visually offensive.
Right- Reading focus cards allow the
student to only see one line at a time.
Below- Blue sheet covers allow the students
to look at a different color than white,
which usually causes students not to be
able to read the words.

voices due to cognitive, language and physical
impairments.
– Daily Visual Schedule
People with Autism and related
disorders like ADHD, PDD-Nos
and Asperger often have difficulty
coping with unstructured
activities and benefit from
increased structure in their lives.
Learning Disablities

– Learning disabilities are neurologically-based processing problems.

– These processing problems can interfere with learning basic skills such as
reading, writing and/or math.
– They can also interfere with higher level skills such as organization, time
planning, abstract reasoning, long or short term memory and attention.

vision or motor-skill impairment .

– Talking Calculators
– Talking calculators look and function like common calculators. However, this
assistive technology devices has a built in speech synthesizer so that each key
pressed is spoken out loud.
– This can help the user to verify that the numbers and operands have been
entered correctly. The calculator also speaks the answer to the math problem.
