Compared to the previous month of October, JMPD have seen a 50% reduction in

FEEDBACK ON CASES OF
SIGNIFICANCE
Arrest of JMPD Instructor
A JMPD driver training instructor demanded sexual favors from a female officer that attended In- Service
training. The instructor offered her extra lessons on condition that she book for them at a Bed & Breakfast. The
female officer reported the matter to the Director of the Academy who informed the Chief of Police. The Chief
immediately informed Director: Internal Affairs and a sting operation was set up. The instructor was arrested on
02/11/2018. On 13/12/2018, the instructor received bail of R 2 000.

Arrest of JMPD Officer


The officer fatally wounded a member of the public and injured a bystander. The incident occurred at Rocker
Fella Lounge in Molapo, Soweto. The officer was charged with murder, attempted murder and assault GBH. The
officer was found guilty and sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment on the 02/11/2018.

Officer A Zulu
The officer was fatally wounded and robbed of her service firearm.
The case is still pending and awaiting Forensics and DNA reports.
No arrest was made as the investigation is still on-going.

The officer was fatally wounded by hijackers that just hijacked a vehicle.
Two suspects were arrested and the investigation is still ongoing.
The next court appearance will be on 21/01/ 2019.

Taxi driver driving facing on coming traffic


The taxi driver that was captured on camera by a biker driving facing oncoming traffic on Sloane Street in
Bryanston, during peak-hour traffic. The incident was captured on camera by a biker and he posted the video on
social media.
When the Chief of Police saw the video he was appalled and instructed his undercover unit to find and arrest the
perpetrator. The driver was located at Ivory Park taxi rank and arrested by JMPD officers.
The accused was charged with Reckless & Negligent driving and detained at Sandton SAPS. He appeared in
court and was found guilty on the 22/11/2018.
OUTCOME: The suspect was sentenced to three months imprisonment or R 6 000 fine. He paid the R 6 000 fine
and was warned not to commit the same offence for a period of three years.

FATALITIES
To date, in the City of Joburg, 11 people lost their lives from accidents since the JMPD festive season
launch on 05 December 2018.

These include the following:

6 X pedestrians
3 X drivers
1 X passenger
1 X cyclist

During the festive season last year, a total of 17 fatalities were reported.

#BuyaMthetho #RegionF1 – On 04/11/2018, 1 suspect was arrested for the possession of


stolen goods at Kindon road, Southdale Household appliances from a truck that was hijacked
in Hammanskraal with an estimated value of R 800 000 was recovered at a storage facility in
Southdale.

FOR NOVEMBER 2018
Sound equipment was impounded at Supremacy of God church of all Nations
which did not have compliance certificates from the City of Johannesburg. The
Church was closed down by JMPD due to non stop complaints that were
lodged to the City Manager’s and Mayor’s office.

On the 23/11/2018 Buya Mthetho Cordon and Search


operations were conducted around JHB CBD. Road closures
were done in seven key points, that is, Rahima Moosa
between Delvers and Von Wielligh, Pritchard and Small
streets, Bree and Delvers, Rahima Moosa and Von Brandis,
Troye and Rahima Moosa, Von Wielligh and Rahima Moosa,
Small and Rahima Moosa streets. Counterfeit goods with
estimated worth of R28 million were confiscated.
On 26/11/2018, counterfeit goods were confiscated in Jhb
CBD with estimated value of over R15 Million.
On the 29/11/2018, counterfeit goods worth R25 million
confiscated in CBD.
On the 30/11/2018, counterfeit goods worth R18 million
confiscated in CBD.

#BuyaMthetho – On 19/11/2018, 4 suspects were arrested by JMPD Vehicle Monitoring Unit


in Soweto, 3 suspects for possession of stolen Eskom Cable with estimated value of R 28 000,
1 suspect an owner of a scrap yard arrested for offering officers a R 3 570 bribe.

21/11/2018

#BuyaMthetho - JMPD K9 jointly with West Crime intelligence arrested 1 suspect for
possession of Explosives during an operation in Roodepoort CBD. Items seized, 99 Powergel
Blasting Cartridges, 15 Electric Detonators and 63 Meters of Detonating Fuse.

The Executive Mayor (Herman Mashaba), MMC Public Safety (Michael Sun) and the Chief of
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (David Tembe), acknowledged hard working
officers of JMPD at a prestigious function which was held at Nasrec Expo Centre on Friday,
30/11/2018.
