WHAT IS/ ARE AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS?
 Audio- visual aids are instructional devices which are
used to communicate messages more effectively through
sound and visuals.
 Audio-visual aids help in stimulating the sensory organs
like ears and eyes and facilitate quick comprehension of
the message by the audience.
 The term audio-visual aid refers to anything that is used
to help to convey the message when communicating
audience
 Its impact and effectiveness can be greatly increased by
the use of suitable audio-visual aids.
 The spoken word is the teacher’s main communication
tool.

• Hand-outs
• Chalk/marker and board
• Models
• Flip chart
 Electric
• Overhead projector

• Computer with LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
Audio Visual Materials

Audio Visual Materials are important to all circle


of learning that start from the lowest to the
highest, including informal education that starts at
home and then the nursery, primary, secondary,
tertiary and University. So AVMs are recognized and
accepted as essential means of increasing the
effectiveness of teaching, learning and research
purpose.
There are 3 kinds of Audio-Visual Materials:
1. Auditory Materials
Auditory means of or relating to the hearing.
This include:
 Recordings
 Tele-lecture
 Radio
 Sound Films
 Telephone, etc.
2. Visual Materials
Visual Materials are those materials which we see and can
be understood by observing the visual aspect of any object.
They include:
 Projected materials- slide, film-strips, film
 Illustrated books
 Chart
 Picture
 Maps
 Globes
 Atlas
 Poster
 Models
 Drawnings
 Cartoons, etc.
3. Audio Visual Materials
Audio Visual Materials are the combination
of Auditory and visual materials. This may
includes:
 Telivision
 Film
 Motion Picture
 Video tapes
 Printed materials with recorded sound
 Demonstration.

Principle of Selection
 They should suit the age level, grade
level, and characteristics of the
learners.
 It should be interesting and motivating.
 They should be true representatives of
the real things.
 They should have in the realization of
desired learning objectives.
Principles of Preparation
 As for as possible locally available
material should be used.
 The teachers should receive some
training in the preparation of aids.
 The teachers themselves should
prepare some of the aids.
 Students may be associated in the
preparation of aids.
Preparation of Handling

and also to facilitate their lending
to the teachers
Principles of Presentation
 Teachersshould carefully visualize the use of
teaching aids before their actual presentation.
 Theyshould fully familiar themselves with use
and manipulation of the aids.
 Adequate care should be taken to handle an
aid in such a way as no damage is done it.
 The aid should be displayed properly so that
all the students are able to see it, observe it
and derive maximum benefit out of it.
Principle of Response
 Teachers guide the students to respond
activity to the AV stimuli.
Principle of Evaluation

Continuous evaluation is necessary.
