INTRODUCTION

• Growth population can be closely defined as the

increase in the number of individuals in
a population.
• In Mathematics population growth problems is
often solved by differential equation involving
the population of a certain area that is either
growing or decaying and the time rate of change
of the population (final and initial population).
• We have studied about the growth of student
population in one of the Residential College of
University of Tun Hussien Onn.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The number of students in Perwira in 2015 , 2016
and 2017 are 412 , 730 and 1020 each.

1.The rate of change of the students in Perwira

before the new contract.

2.The rate of change of the students in Perwira after

the new contract.

3. If Perwira wants open for student to stay for 4

years, did it has enough place for the students?

4. In which year, Perwira will reach the maximum

number of students if follow the contract ?

CALCULATION
Solution (1) :
• The number of students in Residental College Perwira is
observed to increase at a rate proportional to the
number of students present before the contract.
• We know that when in 2015 : t=0, y=412

• In order to find k we can calculate using 2017 by substitute

t=2, y=1020
• Thus, having found the rate constant, we find that the
solution to the differential equation that also statisfies the
initial value is the function.

Solution (2) :
• In 2018 there will be a quarter of student will stay in the
college, therefore we know that
• Therefore for year 2018 , the residental college will
have 1299 students.
• As we need to calculate the new k so we need to
calculate the number of students in 2019 :

• Therefore for year 2018 , the residental college will

have 1675 students.
• As the number of students in Residental College Perwira
is observed to increase at a rate proportional to the
number of students present and the rate of students will
also decrease by 75% for years.
• We know that when in 2018 : t=0, y=1299
• Therefore by substituting t=0, y=811,

• In order to find k we can substitute t=1, y=1675

• Thus, having found the rate constant, we find that
the solution to the differential equation that also statisfies
the initial value is the function.

• After finding the equation we can now proceed

to find solution 3 and 4.

Solution (3) :
• If Perwira wants open for student to stay for 4 years, so the
(t) will be 4.
Maximum capacity = 2044
3587 > 2044
• Since 3587 > 2044, hence Perwira is not suitable for students to
stay for 4 years.

Solution (4) :
• Maximum capacity = 2044

• Since t =1.786, hence Residental College Perwira will reach its

maximum capacity in 2020.
SUGGESTION
• The number of student intake per semester into the higher
education institutes need to be taken a closer look by the
Education Ministry.
• To reduce this problem, shorten the two years contract to
one year for the students to accommodate in the
residential college.
• The university also should ensure to have a special board
which responsible for students on renting accommodation
besides the residential college.
