Feedback:
 Process of injecting a portion of small energy from
output to input of some device or circuit, is known as
Feedback.
 It is used in reducing noise and making amplifier
operation stable.
 Depending upon whether feedback signal adds or
opposes the input, it has two types.
1. Negative Feedback.
2. Positive Feedback.
Feedback Amplifier:
Positive Feedback:
 When feedback energy and input are in phase they
add and it is called positive feedback.
 Since amplifier produces 180 phase shift and feedback
circuitry provide further 180 phase shift, so at input,
Vin and Vfb both have 0 or 360 degrees phase shift,
thus adding each other.
 RC pole are used in feedback circuitry for phase
shifting.
 Single RC pole give 60 degrees phase shift.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Positive Feedback:
 Main advantage of positive feedback is that it increases
the voltage gain.
 Oscillators employ positive feedback technique.
 When feedback is large, oscillations are sustained.
 It is also known as Regenerative or Direct feedback.
 Following are the disadvantages of Positive Feedback.
 Increased Distortion.
 Increased Noise.
 Gain instability.
Negative Feedback:
 It is a type of feedback in which there is 180 phase shift
between input and output.
 Amplifier has 180, phase shift, where as feedback
circuit has 0 degree phase shift.
 It is degenerative or inverse feedback.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Negative Feedback:
 Advantages:
• No Distortion.
• Stable Gain.
• No noise.
• Linear operation.
• Increased Bandwidth.
• Less Harmonics.
• Input and output impedances modified.
• Phase shift 180.
 Disadvantage:
• Low Gain.
