NURSING :

“Nursing is the unique function of


the nurse, that is to assist the individual(sick
or well in the performance of those activities
contributing to health or its recovery ) that
he would perform unaided if he had the
necessary strength, will or knowledge”

PROFESSION:

 Profession – “is a calling that requires special


knowledge, skill and preparation.”
 An occupation that requires advanced knowledge
and skills and that it grows out of society’s needs for
special services
 The services provided are vital to humanity and
the welfare of the society
 There is a special body of knowledge that is
continually enlarged through research.
 The services involve intellectual activities;
individual responsibility (accountability ) is a
strong feature.
 Practitioners are educated in institution of
higher learning.
 Practitioners are motivated by services and
consider their work as an important component
of their lives.
 Practitioners are relatively independent and
control their own policies and activities.
 Authority to control its own work.
 Exclusive body of specialized knowledge.
 Extensive period of formal training
 Control over the performance.
 It should provide the services to the society.
 The profession provide the rewards to its
members
 It must provide the ethical practice.
 Honesty and loyalty
 Discipline and obedience
 Alertness and intelligent observation
 Love for fellow men
 Technical competence
 Dependability and adjustability
 Sympathy, empathy, tact and poise
 Intelligence and common sense

 Be gentle and polite in your talk.
 Greet your seniors, co-workers, clients, with
appropriate words and according to the time
wish good morning, good noon etc,.
 Address the senior with proper title, such as sir ,
Madam, Sister, Mister
 Stand up when people of higher rank entre your
room
 Stand up when answering a question in the
classroom.
 Excuse yourself when overtaking a senior person.
 Maintain silence wherever and whenever
necessary , e.g.. Classroom, library, study room,
dormitories.
 Keep your dress neat and clean
 While on duty never use any form of
jewellery that may interfere with work
 Be punctual always
 You should not give and receive any gifts or
present especially from the client and their
relatives.
 Never let others secret go out.

 Keep eye contact and sit face to face when


listening to someone.

 Knockat the door and wait for the answer


before you enter into other’s room.
