What is an EV
• An Electric Vehicle is an automobile that uses an electric motor as it’s
primary source of propulsion.

• Electric vehicles (EVs) uses electrical energy which is stored

in rechargeable batteries.

• Electrical energy can also be generated by using Fuel cells and Solar
cells.

2
Types of Electric Vehicles

• Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

A BEV is a ‘true’ electric vehicle in that the only source for propulsion and
for onboard electronics is from electrical energy.

• Hybrid-Electric Vehicle (HEV)

A hybrid-electric vehicle has a two-part drive system, a conventional fuel
engine, and an electric drive. In all HEVs the only energy source is fuel, electrical
energy is generated secondarily via regenerative braking.

• Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicle (pHEV)

Plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (pHEV) are similar to HEVs except that the
proportion energy used to propel the vehicle is electricity, not fuel. The vehicle is
designed to engage the fuel engine when battery power is running low.

• Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)

FCEV is a type of electric vehicle which uses a fuel cell, instead of a battery,
or in combination with a battery and fuel tanks, to power its on-board electric
motor. Fuel cells in vehicles generate electricity to power the motor, generally
using oxygen from the air and compressed hydrogen.

How do you charge an electric car ?
• Charging an electric car is easy and can be done anywhere there is an outlet or
charging station. Most EV owners charge their vehicle at home or at work. Public
charging stations are also available at gas stations, parking lots, retail , grocery
stores and restaurants

Why Electric Vehicles

Non EV EV

100,000 km 100,000 kms

100,000/50 = 2,000 litres of fuel 1 charge (4 kw) = 65kms (Ather)

Fuel cost : 2,000 * 100 = 200,000 Power cost :1540*4*5 = 30,800

Total :100,000 + 200,000 = 300,000 Total : 110,000 + 30,800 = 140,800
