Cultural sensitivities in India

ë Diet in India has been impacted by many different


religions in India for centuries now.
ë Hindus and Muslims form the largest majority in India
ë Hindus don͛t eat beef. Hindu believers consider cow
sacred and holy. So harming a cow͙ let alone eat its meat is
considered a very grave sin
ë While Muslims do not eat pork.

ë India is the only country in the world where McDonald does not serve
beef or pork in any of its outlets.
ë In 2001 lawsuit brought against it by three Indian businessman for not
disclosing presence of beef in french fries.
ë Due to this people in Delhi vandalized one restaurant causing damage of
45000 US dollars.
ë 10 million US dollars were paid to settle the lawsuit.
