Abstract

This project deal with Design, Analysis and Fabrication of “Multipurpose Mechanical Machine”.
This machine is designed for the purpose of multi operations such as drilling, hacksaw cutting,
grinding and wood cutting. This machine perform multipurpose operation at same time with relative
speed and automatic which is controlled or operated by motor which runs with the help of electric
power. This machine is based on the mechanism of scotch-yoke return. There are two principles on
which the proposed model generally works they are, scotch yoke return mechanism and power
transmission through gears. This model of the multi operational machine is useful in industries and
domestic operation which can perform mechanical operation like drilling, cutting, grinding and wood
cutting on a thin metallic as well as wooden model or body in bulk quantities in reduced time.
The machine was designed by using solid works software. Various tests such as Total deformation,
Equivalence test, Elastic strain, Safety factor are performed on the design model using Ansys
software. Finally the designed model was fabricated. The objectives of the model developed are
conservation of electricity (power supply). Reduction in cost of manufacturing, increase in
productivity and reduce the floor space requirement.
Keywords: Multipurpose, Scotch yoke mechanism, Solid works design,Productivity, Power
Consumption, Floor Area Requirement, Manufacturing Cost.

Introduction

Industries are basically meant for Production of useful goods and

services at low production cost, machinery cost and low inventory
cost.
Today in this world every task have been made quicker and fast due
to technology advancement but this advancement also demands
huge investments and expenditure, every industry desires to make
high productivity rate maintaining the quality and standard of the
product at low average cost.
In an industry a considerable portion of investment is being made
for machinery installation. So, we have fabricated a machine which
can perform operations like drilling, grinding, hacksaw cutting,
wood cutting at different working centers.

Tool: A Key to Increased Productivity, Decreased Cost and Saving in Power Consumption
and Floor Area Requirement”. The designing and developing a multipurpose machine tool
which is capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously. The machine is operated by
giving drive to the main shaft to which worm gear mechanism is directly attached; worm
gear mechanism is used for sawing operation. On the main shaft bevel gear mechanism
was used for transmitting power. These bevel gears are used to transmit motion in the
radial direction and drives drilling center. The Grinding wheel is directly connected to the
motor shaft. This model facilitates to complete three operations simultaneously with a
single power source. The machine was designed by using Solid works software. Various
tests were performed on the designed model using Ansys software. The tests were carried
out with regards to deformation, stress and weight carrying capacity. Finally, the designed
model was fabricated. The objectives of the model developed are conservation of
electricity (power supply), reduction in cost of manufacturing, increase in productivity
and reduced floor space requirement
