FREQUENCY REUSE:

Frequency reuse is referred to as a same

frequency is reused after a certain distance in
cellular wireless system. Generally a limited
frequency band is divided into many groups,
each containing a few carriers, which are in
turn assigned to adjacent cells

ADVANTAGES:

Signal strength do not Also it helps in Efficient use of Nationwide Adaptability to

interfere with each other. accommodating spectrum resources coverage traffic density
This, in turn enhances the larger number of
available bandwidth of users
each cell.

Cluster of cells
A cluster of several cells with no overlapping area is shown.

D= Re-use distance
R= Radius of cell

4/22/2019 9
RE-USE DISTANCE:
• The distance between two cells using the same
channel known as re-use distance and is represented
by D

Equation: D=√(3N)R

Here N= Number of cells in a cluster

• R= Radius of cell

4/22/2019 10
RE-USE FACTOR:
*The re-use factor is the ratio of distance D upon radius
R of that is D/R=√(3N)

TYPE OF FREQUENCY RE-USE FACTOR IN GSM:

K=3 with frequency hopping
K=4 with or without frequency hopping
K=7 with or without frequency hopping
K=3 with each cell sectored
K=4 with each cell sectored

Additional area can be covered with additional
clusters without having any overlapping area
