HEALTH PRACTICES
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Safety - the state of being free from harm, loss or danger.

Health - a state of complete physical, mental and social well-


being and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.

Health Practices - the actions by which the individuals can


prevent diseases and promote self-care, cope with challenges,
and develop self-reliance, solve problems and make choices
that enhance health.
AGENCIES RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFETY
AS RELATED TO HEALTH

The Department of Health is the executive department


of the Philippine government responsible for ensuring
access to basic public health services by all Filipinos
through the provision of quality health care and the
regulation of all health services and products.

Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines


(formerly called Bureau of Food and Drugs) was created
under the Department of Health to license, monitor, and
regulate the flow of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical
devices, and household hazardous waste in the
Philippines.
PROGRAMS RELATED TO HEALTH
PRACTICES

CCP (Critical Control Points) - a point, step or procedure at which


controls can be applied and food safety hazard can be prevented,
eliminated or reduced to acceptable critical level.

HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) - it is a management


system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and
control of biological, chemical and physical hazards from raw materials
production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution
and consumption of the finished product.
• GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
-a production and testing practice that helps to ensure a
quality product
-pursuant to Republic Act 971
-pursuant to Republic Act No. 7394 also known as
“ The Consumer Act of the Philippines”.
Republic Act No. 9711

An act strengthening and rationalizing the regulatory capacity


of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) by establishing adequate
testing laboratories and filed offices. Upgrading equipment,
augmenting its human resource complement, giving authority to
retain its income, renaming it the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), amending certain sections of Republic Act No. 3720, as
amended and appropriating funs thereof.
The Consumer Act of the Philippines
(RA no. 7394)

The objectives of this Act are the following:


• Protection against hazards to health and safety: protection against
deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales act and practices;
• Provision of information and education to facilitate sound choice
and the proper exercise of rights by the consumer;
• Provision of adequate rights and means of redress; and
• Involvement of consumer representatives in the formulation of social
and economic policies.
