Work to be done
“A materials system composed of two or more
physically distinct phases whose combination
produces aggregate properties that are different
from those of its constituents”.

Materials
• Matrix Material: Aluminium (Al6061) alloy is used as the matrix
material. Aluminium and magnesium alloys are regarded as widely
used matrices due to low density and high thermal conductivity.

Hardness Test
The Brinell hardness test was performed to measure the hardness of the
specimens as per the ASTM standard. A force of 500kg was applied on
the specimens by indenter of diameter 5mm for 10 seconds. Four
samples of Al-SiC MMC’s particles were prepared. Figures shows
samples after test and hardness. The Brinell hardness values with
reference to scale BHN were taken for all samples.

Impact Test
Charpy impact test was performed to determine the
resistance of the specimens against shocks or sudden
forces. The energy absorbed is determined in joules. This
absorbed energy is a measure of the impact strength of a
material.

Compression Test
This test was performed to find out the Compression strength of the
composite. The test was performed on the UTM. which clearly indicates
that compression strength of aluminium reinforced with SiC is higher
than that of unreinforced aluminium in the fig.
