 Superlative adjectives

are used to describe an


object which is at the
upper or lower limit of a
quality (the tallest, the
smallest, the fastest, the
highest). They are used in
sentences where a
subject is compared to a
group of objects.

Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object).


 Add ‘’Est’’
Example:
Fast The fastest.
The fastest animal in the world is an insect.

 Consonant + vowel + consonant. Double the last


consonant, add ‘’ est’’

Example:
Big The biggest.
Juan is the biggest in the family.
 Ending in ‘’y’’, change ‘’y’’ for ‘’iest’’.

Example:
Funny The funniest
Jeni was the funniest.

Long adjectives write ‘’most’’ before the adjective.

Examples:
-Beautiful The most beautiful.
The most beautiful women in the world are from
Colombia.
-Difficult The most difficult.
Some people think that Russian is the most
difficult language.
 The following adjectives have irregular forms:
Good The best
Bad The worst
Far The farthest / The furthest.
