Navigation
 The OmniScan navigation is basically base on a
very simple structure. Indeed, each parameter is
classify in a specific sub-category which is include
in a global category.
Menu > Sub-Menu > Parameters
 Forinstance, if the rectification display mode must
be adjusted, go to:
(1) (2) (3) RF
HW+
UT Setting > Receiver > Rectifier = HW-
FW

9
Menus Description - Setup
Wizard
 Using the Wizard menu, a complete
application setup can be create. The step-by-
step approach prevents the user from missing
a parameters change. A very useful Online
help gives specific information on parameters
to be set.
 Calibration is also an important part of the
setup creation step. Thus, Wizard menu also
include a complete step-by-step calibration
assistance.

16:16M or
16:64M

15
1. “M series” module
 OmniScan MX automatically detect the “M
series” module and boot-up the right
interface.

You can go directly to slide 20 to

continue your demo if you use a
16:16M or 16:64M module!

16
2. “AUT” module + “M series” simulator

17
2. “AUT” module + “M series” simulator
To use the “M series” simulator:
 Turn-on the OmniScan
 Go to:
– Preferences > Service > File Manager
 Push 2 times on “OK” button ( x2)

18
2. “AUT” module + “M series” simulator
 Scroll
down on “Demo_NO” and then press
“Rename” button

 Rename “Demo_NO” for “Demo” and then

“OK” ( )
 Push on “Close” button

19
2. “AUT” module + “M series” simulator
 Shutdown the OmniScan (hold )
Note: don’t save the setup (No)
 Turn-on the OmniScan

You are now in simulation mode of

the “M series” module !
 NOTE:
– To turn-off the “M series” simulator, just rename “Demo”
for “Demo_NO” using the same way.
20
Set the brightness to max!
 To save battery energy, the OmniScan screen
brightness is set by default to 25%. During your
demo, in order to display a better screen
appearance, you should set this value to the max
value.
 Go to:
– Preferences > Pref. > Bright. = Max
 Note:
– Max = 75% in battery operated mode
– Max = 100% in AC powered mode
21
Set Unit (mm or inch)
 Depending where you are in the world, you
might want to change the measurement unit.
 Go to:
– Preferences > Pref. > Units = mm or inch

23
Needed Equipment
 For this first demo use a:
– 64 elements PA Probe without wedge
– Standard block (or any flat steel block) with SDH

24
Wizard = Step-by-step Assistance!
 For each step, Online
help gives specific
information on
parameters to be set.
Thus, if you are not
sure, take time to
read what do the
parameters mean.

Step Title
 Wizard are guided by
a step-by-step menu
using “Next” and 2) “NEXT” 1) Set Parameters
“Back” navigation. 25
Wizard – Linear 0°
 Go to:
– Wizard > Group > Start
 ValidateMaterial
 Select Probe
– Since “Auto Detect” = On, the probe is automatically
detected and the correct probe parameters are loaded.
– If for any reason your probe is not detected, set “Auto
Detect” = Off and then use the “Probe” button in order to
select your probe in the list.
 Select Wedge
– Use the “Wedge” button and select “Contact” in the list.
26
Wizard – Linear 0°
 Accept
– Use the “Continue” button in order to pass to the next
wizard

27
Wizard – Linear 0°
 Select Law Configuration
– For “Law Config.” = select “Linear”
 Set Wave Type
– Wave Type = LW
 Select Probe Elements
– Elements Qty = 16
– First Element = 1
– Last Element = 64
– Element Step = 1
 Set Beam Angle
– Min. Angle = 0°
– Focus Depth = 2/3 of the Thickness (Ex: T=100mm, FD=66mm)
28
Wizard – Linear 0°
 Generate Law
– Use “Generate” button to calculate the focal law

30
Inspection settings
 Put the probe on the steel plate just over a SDH.

 Go to:
– UT Setting > General > Range (or use shortcut )
– Set this parameter equal to the thickness value + about
10%. (Ex: T=100mm, Range=110mm)
 Go to:
– UT Setting > Receiver > Filter
– Set the filter on your probe frequency (Ex: if you have a
5L64 probe, “Filter” = 5MHz)
31
Inspection settings
Data Cursor
 Go to: (focal law #)
– Measurement >
Cursors >
Selection = S-scan
– Measurement >
Cursors > VPA
Defect
– Scroll with the knob
in order to move
data cursor on the
defect.
– You can also use
shortcut to
move the data A-scan linked to the data
cursor cursor will follow
32
Inspection settings
 Go to:
– Gate/Alarm > Gate >
Start
– Scroll with the knob
in order move Gate A
over the defect
 Go to: Gate
– UT Setting >
Advanced > Set
80%
– Defect amplitude is
set to 80%

33
Inspection
 Move your probe over the defect with a left-right /
right-left movement and see the result.
– In the S-scan, data cursor remain over the same focal
law and the A-scan is still the same.
 Go to:
– Display > Properties > Source = Highest
 Move your probe over the defect with a left-right /
right-left movement and see the result.
– Data cursor “track” the highest amplitude detected in the
gate A in the S-scan and the A-scan is automatically
refresh to display this highest value
34

– Gain = adjust the gain to obtain an unsaturated signal
for the backwall of skip 1 and skip 2

37
Calibration – Velocity
 Set Thickness 1 and 2
– Echo Type = Thickness
– Thickness 1 = (your part thickness)
– Thickness 2 = (2 x you part thickness)
 Set Gate A on Thickness 1
– Set Gate A on first BW echo
– Get Position
 Set Gate A on Thickness 1
– Set Gate A on second BW echo
– Get Position
 Accept
– If the calculated velocity seems ok (see the “Material
Velocity” parameters), push “Accept” button
38
